Stirrup Climb good setup!

@justsomedude- what model rock harness are you using? I tried this tonight with an old BOD harness and it wasn't very comfortable so I didn't get very far. I think this was due to the harness I was using not being very comfortable! I may need to upgrade! Also do the stirrups become essentially your platform?

The BOD can be a real nut squeezer... you have to learn how to hang in it properly. I used the BOD for a long time.
Once, I had an 'incident'...it HURT and I had to leg lock the rope so I could get the weight off of my harness and adjust it.

If you want more comfort and you aren't planning to buy a Kestrel (or if you want nice harness anyway), the Metolius SafeTech Deluxe is pretty wonderful. It has strength rated gear loops and is very comfortable.
Just doesn't have quick release leg straps.

Some people do just use the stirrups as the platform. I like to have something solid as well.
I used stirrups as my platform with a OneHair seat.

The BOD is definitely a nut squeezer! LOL! I currently use the BOD with the sit drag combo so the rock harness up to this point has just been for safety. Have you tried the sit drag / rock harness combo with the stirrups instead of the onehair? Also whats your go to ultralight foot platform when going ultralight?

My normal platform is ameristeps on an over center buckle strap. On the wrong tree, they can slip. I like having the stirrups with me either way. A couple of screw steps or tree bolts are another extremely portable option.

Stirrup comfort depends upon padding and the firmness of your boots. When I have used them with a saddle and needed to stretch, I might hook up my linesman's belt and stand up all the way. They are definitely better for sitting than standing. When you lean or stand, your feet are braced against the tree.

The knot I tied in the middle actually holds you off of the tree.
Add some kneepads or you can relax by just hanging and straddle the tree.
