Strings silencer material?

I wrap the yarn around the hook and longest leg 30 times then tie with a small piece of yarn in the center. Then slide the silencer off the jig. Place the silencer in between the bow string while bow is unstrung, restring the bow. I use scissors to then cut all the loops. After a few shots they will puff out. I have never had to serve them in always seem to stay in place even when I unbrace my bow.
Love the tool.

Bump I have some Amsteel and wanting to make some puffs. @Razorbak66 i need instructions for a 10 yr old.

I tried yarn for the first time and they turned out great. Not as quiet as whiskers to me but they do pretty well.

I’m not him but I watched a YouTube video so I’m now an expert and this is how I do it.

Cut the length of amsteel to the size silencer you want. Mark the spot on your string where you want the silencer. With the bow unstrung, split your string in half and slide the amsteel in. String the bow and then commence to unbraiding every small hair size fiber of the amsteel. Then shoot the bow. That should do it.

Lol that will work what I do is cut 1.75” then insert in the middle of amsteel with a awl or something then open up slightly to create a hole length wise then insert a small piece of straw or something like that then insert string threw straw and slide down string and repeat on the other end discard straw then string bow and smooth out amsteel and slide to spot you want it then clip with clothes pin then get a strong serving material and wax that heavily then do a constrictor knot or couple over and under knots in middle of amsteel and pull tight then pull tight again then start seperating the bundles and on one side pull bundles aside and put 5 half hitches and repeat on other side snip excess thread about 3/4” then get a small wire brush and brush amsteel every which way then shoot it and your good You can still move puffs if needed it won’t be easy but can be done. You don’t have to burn the excess thread cause it will hold fine

I got ahold of a 2.5 gallon ziplock bag full of raw Navajo sheep wool. Ended up twisting some into a rough yarn by hand, same way I twist a two strand Flemish bow string together, adding strands of material as I went. Then cut 2” sections, tied them together with serving thread, and put them through the my string. Shot it a bunch to puff them out then used scissors to trim them into ball shaped. They’ve been holding up well for the last month.

I make scallop strips from wet felted wool. Works great and can sustain rain. they will attract stick burrs tho. I’m curious about trying buckski- that sounds like a good idea
