Team 1 Thread

Anyone taking advantage of this massive cold front this weekend?! I had to work this morning but ill be out tonight, tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening. Hoping to see a few bucks moving a littler earlier with this cool weather.

They were moving this morning.
Had a few does and a shooter buck come through today.

It’s my first year 100% committing to the stick bow.
I was hunting off the ground, had a doe come by at 18 yards, which is well within my range; however, I got a little “doe fever” and rushed my shot and shot right over her back.
Had a shooter come by at 30 yards, but that’s out of range.
Certainly wish I would have killed the doe, but getting excited about a doe is exactly why I made the switch to traditional.

If I go up 1 stick n shoot a deer in saddle, even only being 6' off the ground does that still count? I certainly cant climb right now but....i think I can do 1 stick high. This is killing me stuck in house while my teams out putting boots to the ground.

I don't care if you sit on the ground....ha. Just put on your saddle and shoot one........

I almost exclusively hunt one stick high. Where I hunt it's the perfect height to get me above the scrub brush and any higher is useless during the early season with all the leaves. Do it man!!

Well last weekend I almost got us a few more points. Doe came in to 30yds and ended up bedding down for about 1/2 an hour then got up and walked away. Nothing this afternoon but the wind was all over the place where I was. Maybe better luck in the AM!

My confidence goes WAY up when a deer beds next to me.

When I was 13 or so I sat a stand in early November and had an old 7 point locked down with a doe bed 27 yards from me. In typical kid fashion I had forgotten my range finder that morning and never shot him cause I didn't know the distance.

Well the does didn't cooperate. Go figure.......

Did some mid day scouting that turned up a few good red oaks with sign around them and a few that have yet to start dropping but are loaded down.
same here. I hunted most of the weekend. usually a doe or 2 is automatic. Plenty of deer seen all exactly just outside of bow range. it's like I couldn't pick the right tree?!

I was being lazy and hunted one of my pre set stands on a cluster of red oaks that seems is just beginning to drop. Historically they use that area late October and into the rut. Think I saw two does at a distance paralleling the ridge line.

Had a couple of fun hunts this weekend but not shots. Dinker bucks doing buck stuff harassing does. Some good chases, grunting and fighting but again, no shots. Cool weather has them on their feet a bit. I won't be back in the woods until next week due to work travel.

So I had something on my schedule this afternoon that got cancelled so I hit the woods. I decided to throw a flier on somewhere I've never been. I went in about 3pm and I had non stop deer nearly 360 around me.

Multiple small 6pts chasing 4-5 does all around me. I had one doe get 30 yards from me but I had no shot. Towards the end I had a large 6pt come out and say hi, but he stayed far away.

I did not get blown out although I suspect I might have got winded at one point.
I going to go back to this place, unfortunately I probably can't get out until next week. Not sure yet
Great evening in the woods for sure though!

Arrowed a young 9 point under some Chinkapin oaks tonight. He would’ve been a nice one in several years but this is public land and my family is almost out of venison so….

Also @Blacksmith congrats on that buck! It’s a stud!

Holy cow @Blacksmith! What a deer!

Makes me feel like my kayak bass fishing tourney days, didn't matter how fat they were. Just mattered how long they were

We're putting together a strong set of early season points though!
I probably get a little too excited to shoot one when a buck shows up ! He would have been a giant next fall but he wanted to ride in my truck this year.
