Quick clean kill he was dead where I heard him crash.. he came in from behind me and by the time I heard him with the soft wet leaves he was directly behind me at 15 yard. He was down in a ravine so it was a pretty steep shot angle. By the time I saw him he was smelling my path I walked in on I spun around thought he was decent and let one fly.. He’s a decent 3.5 year old but I’m a little disappointed had I seen him walk in and had time to evaluate I wouldn’t have probably shot him. But everything happens for a reason and I’m happy I made a good shot on him.. on too doe patrol and maybe an out of state trip now.

Well got out for a evening sit last night. No deer seen, but the sign looked good. I sat on an oak stand the was masting heavily this year, but none were dropping yesterday. There were still a good bit of acorns on the ground, and the sign was fresh but no movement. It might have been the weather as it was very warm and humid, 79° and 78% humidity, a low pressure systems swept up from the south and will be hanging around for a few days.
I realize that its early but I'm losing confidence, as I have been a step behind all season. I went into one of my areas too early, its was typically a good rut stand but I may have ruined it. I'm starting to overthink my hunts and get really torn on where to hunt when I get the chance to. Im going to take a week or so off of hunting to try and reset myself. I'm taking off work on the 30th to do an all day sit in WV on a funnel that has always produced bucks cruising starting this coming week. I hoping to shoot my now a little and otherwise get my mind off hunting to start thinking more clearly and stop second guessing and overthinking.

Hope yall are in the game, hunt often, hunt safe!

Congrats brother, way to get it done. Don't let that disappointment settle in, as you said everything happens for a reason, and that's a dang fine buck.

Last weekend I took my 3 year old to sit in a blind and hang out at our deer camp camper. Had a blast. We saw 7 deer and he did well. When 4 does piled into the food plot he said “shoot them daddy” LOL. Love that kid haha.

Sounds like you are putting an awful lot of pressure on yourself to get a kill. Don’t forget to enjoy the process of the hunt. Maybe scout an area you never hunted for a change of pace. Dan Infalt posted several videos this fall with a similar “losing confidence” theme that I took some learnings away from so check some of that content out for some new perspectives to help get back in a positive mindset.

Fellas thanks for the kind words about my deer. I do agree he’s a great deer. I guess the let down for me is not achieving the personal goals I set for this season. I feel like I’m done before the dance even got started. On that note I am excited to have some pressure off and enjoy some doe hunting. My wife took off rutcation to help with the kids and do some hunting at home. Our focus has now shifted to getting her on her first good buck. I’m putting a second saddle set together for her and am looking forward to seeing if we can get her a good deer. I’m not looking forward to hearing about it for the next forever if she shoots a slammer.. Good luck fells get after them. Hope to get back out and get us some doe points soon.

I saw 8 total. Had a small buck come out first, feed a little the go back in the woods....

2 young does came out and feed then walked right up to me and hung out for a while.....

Then two more came out in the same spot while the other two were under the stand....

Had a big doe in front of me about 375 yds away but she left the strip before I could get a picture. Then a big doe, maybe the same one, not certain and this guy came out and 160 yds away.
