Been slow here in the Deep South, but we still have tons of time before our late rut kicks in. Made a few hunts in Alabama on the family farm. Had plenty of deer in bow range, but just couldn't get it done. Spooked three different groups of deer one evening.
Heading out this evening in Louisiana. Haven't touched the public land here since October. Not sure what acorn trees and what bedding areas will be hot right now. I have three options.
1) Observation hunt on a bedding area. If I spot some action, I can move in on it tomorrow, but the temps are rising through the weekend.
2) Get aggressive with said bedding area, assuming general direction of travel will be towards open hardwoods.
3) Scout my way in through a finger of hardwoods towards a bedding area and set up on hot sign. With this option, there's a chance I won't find any hot sign (haven't been in this spot since February) and will just have to settle for setting up down wind of the bedding area and hoping for the best.
Any one care to offer advice?
