Looks like my family (parents, sister, brother, nieces, nephews, the whole shebang) is spending the week of Thanksgiving near Gatlinburg, TN. I'm gonna saddle hunt a day or two.

Anyone give me some advice on public land or permission private in the area?

Thanks in advance!

G2 large parcels of public to hunt as well as some small if you're willing to drive an hour to hunt. I'm near Morristown so wish I could help you out more down towards Gatlinburg. Also I'm sure you know rifle season will be in full swing. Not much help am I......LOL

Nope. The right answer is:

"Hey G2, I've got a 6 year old typical 12 point that lives in my back yard and comes in every day like clock work at 10 am. He walks 35 yards behind the house and stops 15 yards away beside a giant oak tree, and feeds for 30 minutes without a care in the world. He never looks up. He's also deaf. The wind always blows from North to South and he always comes from the North. Also, at my house we have a full deer processing setup, a deluxe wild game jerky tasting room, a french doughnut and pastry bakery, a craft beer brewery, and a swimsuit model calendar shoot everyday from 1030 AM - noon."

Thats the answer I'm looking for.

I didn't realize your expectations were so small!

I always have good luck at cades cove. You probably wouldn’t even need your film gear. Someone is bound to get it on video for you. Lol

Where ever you hunt in East Tennessee. The deer are not plentiful, to many bear and pigs to compete with. If you decide to hunt be ready to hike some mountains. I live in middle Tennessee between Knoxville and Nashville, sorry I couldn't be more help.

My inlaws don’t hunt and a few years ago the did the same thing and I look for hunting options like you are doing. I finally said it’s hunting season, I don’t do vacations during hunting season. So my wife took the kids without me. Then they all said they had so much fun they were gonna make it a tradition. Well I made it a tradition to have a lot of free days without the family to be free to hunt.
Yes I’m considered the black sheep of my wife’s family. My father-n-law called me his outlaw instead of inlaws before I even got married. So I had a reputation to uphold. They did it for a few years but slacked off on it now. They are doing it again this year. I went with them this summer even though I didn’t want to. We have been several times. My inlaws have been going since my wife was a kid. They can’t understand why I don’t want to go. I said after you do it a few times, what’s the point. You have seen everything. They say it’s a beautiful place. I said it’s the same terrain as my backyard. I said I see no fun in going to places to wait in lines with crowds of people. Then FNL comes back but we mostly camp and enjoy the camp ground. I said well come camp at my house and save a lot of money. You can watch deer, be in the same woods and eat good. They just don’t understand.
Bottom line is my family will probably be there for thanksgiving also. You can remove your castration band and join me at my lease in Ms or go wait in lines at Dollywood.

Amen. Whenever I am lucky enough to be off for thanksgiving it’s me and my uncle hunting by ourselves. We eat spaghetti for dinner. One year my wife wanted to host thanksgiving dinner so I had to come home. I started a fire in the wood stove and got the house to about 85 degrees. Everyone was so hot they left immediately after eating. I cleaned up and went back to hunting camp.

Life is short the people you eat Thanksgiving with this year may not be there next year. Enjoy your time with them. Anyway, I think of trout fishing when up that way. Enjoy the holiday and have a great time doing whatever you decide to do. Good luck

I love hunting fishing and the outdoor lifestyle. My wife said "its me or the woods". Man I'm sure having a good time out here in my tent with de udder wild critters.

Bigasports, Catman and I are all 3 hrs south west. It would make a long day!

My wife knows it would be a waste of breath to even ask that question. She knows she can just pack up and go if she ever feels that way. As Brad Paisley once sang....I'm gonna miss her when I get home.

Yeah I know! First thing I did was check the saddle hunter map! 3 hours won't work unfortunately. I'm going to have to stay close to the cabin since it's a family vacation.
