Hey guys new saddler doing the modified sit drag practice quite a bit at home shooting and manuevering however 1 issues that I have been having is that my prusik that I attach to my tether with after I put weight on it is locking in place when I take weight off of it and adjusting it is really hard. I have been having to grab the end my carabener attached to it and feeding it back through 1 handed before it will adjust. I have 11m climbing rope as the tether and my prusik is 8m climbing rope. Idk if I need different material for my prusik or different size rope looking for pointers. I know a ropeman 1 would be best but trying to stay within budget this year next year will be getting 1 just looking for pointers for my set this year. Thanks guy first post here done tons of research but haven't seen anyone post about this.

If I were you I’d look into a prusik tending option. It is something that will move and your friction knot as you take up slack. Also maybe someone can suggest rope for your prusik that plays well with your tether. It’s been said that some lock up more than others. Also some friction knots release easier, so that might be an option as well.

Ok...when you tie a prussic the only drawback once you load it is somewhat to extremely difficult to move. I would suggest you get a split tail ( you can make one) and tie either the distel or Swabisch friction hitch. I personally use the Swabisch hitch and it is super easy. It is one handed operation and I can rappel down the rope by pushing it down. It instantly grabs the rope. I have the predator rope and an 8mm split tail that is 28".

I just bought the sterling htp in 9mm and a 6mm tech cord...the tech cord is rated at 4700 lbs breaking.

blakes hitch works well and is easy to tie and dont load up like a prussic. you could then easily put prussic above the blakes for backup and peace of mind and it would never load and be easy to slide. i probably am going to do this above the ropeman just because sh## happens.

Look at the Distel hitch, it seems just as good as a prusik, with less effort to adjust after loading. I am still getting my set up together, and have had a few people suggest the distel over the prusik.

It takes a bit of fiddling, but you'll find that there are combos of cord types/diameters that do and don't work well together, whatever friction hitch you use (Distel, prusik, kelmheist etc.). Heavier, springier, slicker friction hitch cord tends to release well. On the flip side, it will be necessary to run whatever you use through the usual ground-level test gauntlet. Too heavy, springy or slick, and it may not grab to your satisfaction. With some of these knots though, you can add/subtract wraps about the main line to increase/decrease the grabbiness.
