Tether Redundancy

I was wondering, how do you connect to your 30 ft rope?
Just getting into saddles, going to use my existing presets minus the hang ons.
I have the 30ft HSS lifelines that I connect to center loop of my RC harness with a short tether.
Saddles dont have the center loop to hook into so I am trying to come up with a good solution.

With your bridge on your saddle. Clip into it with the carabiner/friction hitch on your 30ft rope.

Why would you not use your bridge?
You are right, I could use the bridge.
I guess I was thinking more along the line if once setup on stand, having something that I could leave the HSS Lifeline attached to for redundancy.
Sorry, I should have explained more.

Do you hunt with all that in front of you ? Looks like a lot going on there
I do hunt with all that in front of me. I wind the rope back and forth through the carbiners to provide friction in case my Madrock Safeguard suddenly fails. I shot a doe at my 5 o'clock with all this stuff. It doesn't really get in the way since the ropes are all in a narrow channel. With a long bridge, two ropes going from my sadlle up to the tree would get in the way more.

One option would be have an additional, much shorter, bridge like many of us use for rappelling. You could also route it over to a lineman's loop.

I use a short bridge all the time. You can see it in my photo above in post #8. It is the purple and white sling. I don't understand all the comments people make about hip pinch because I don't feel any because of my short bridge. I use a 24" climbing sling and run it back and forth twice for an effective 12" bridge length.

Looks like a good setup!
Right now I am on the wait list for a JX3, not sure if a short main bridge would be doable on a JX3 but I think as a secondary between linesman loops it may be the ticket.

Been reading lots on bridge safety and backup but how about backup to the tether itself?? In a one in a million chance a tether broke does any one have a backup other than leaving linesmans attached loosely or maybe growing feathers and gliding down???

I climb with a small "mini tether", as I call it, instead of a lineman's belt. After I attach my main tether at height I move the "mini" down a little and put a little slack in it (very little slack). It may be a controversial subject but it works for me.

I like actually being tethered to the tree as I climb and I like having a back up for piece of mind at height.

I'm not worried about the main tether failing as I am about me failing. Hunting often takes place in adverse conditions. it's cold, it's dark, I'm often sleep deprived during deer season so I like dummy proofing my system a little.

I have been thinking a JX3 is in my future. Their website doesn't disclose too many details, at least that I could find. I would always continue to climb SRT. My leg strength was sometimes not too good on Helium sticks. I want something that if I go limp, I just stay where I am.

I got the idea from some other thread, and decided to wear a minimalist RC harness while using the JX3.... some may think this is way overkill but (1) I’m not a big fan of all of its plastic buckles and don’t expect much from them, (2) the RC harness is not much of a hassle for me at all and gives me more confidence, (3) I use it to tether up as I climb, in addition to lineman’s, and (4) I then connect it to my lineman’s as secondary tether once I’m on the JX3 bridge. I feel much safer than prior to doing this.

I had been testing the fit of my RCH and climbing methods around the house and sat in my chair in the living room to take a break and check out Saddlehunter. The RCH is very comfortable to sit in a chair with. I forgot I had it on. It sounds like the same in a JX3. Yours sounds like a great system.

I set up similar to @MaxJac for the same reasons. I use a RCH and fleece saddle. Once I get to desired height one-sticking I set up my rappel rope and pull down line so I have everything setup when it's time to come down. I switch my tether to my saddle and hook up my RCH to my rappel rope using my Safeguard. I like the redundancy since I don't have as much faith in my fleece as I do my RCH, it helps when I am adjusting my tether to be able to un-weight it, and I get all my in-the-tree movement done at setup time.

Yep. I run 2. I don’t care what anyone says or makes fun of redundancy. It’s my ass up there. With the exception of the second bridge, I’m carrying nothing extra. 100% unobtrusive and gives me backup. I’ll apologize to no one.

I’m using a RCH. I climb with a safeguard connected to my 30’ tether/rappel rope.

What do you mean you connect yours with a small tether. I’m confused!

I have a rope bridge and another web bridge attached to my linemans loops as a back up so multiple things would have to fail for me to fall. Is it necessary probably not, but i sure dont mind the extra 30 seconds for peace of mind.

Hi, For my hang on stand setup I have my RCH center loop connected to a 75cm Beal Dynaclip which then connects to my Caribiner / prusik knot on my HSS linesman rope. When I said short tether I was referring to the dynaclip which gives me about 30" off my RCH to the HSS lifeline rope.

Nice, I was thinking of that setup also, not so much worried about the saddle giving loose as I am about either a bridge or rope failure.
I also have concerns about wearing a second harness, while I love my RCH compared to a traditional harness the downside to me was it always falling down when I walked into the woods, constantly have to pull up my drawers so to say.

I put suspenders on my saddle and that was life changing on the walk in and walk out. Walking is tough in a saddle with a pack for guys who have no butt!
