Tether tag end help!?!?!?

If you run the tag end thru the bridge and back to the biner and the ropeman fails this wont do anything....maybe if the ropeman slips it will but not if it comes apart. Run the tag end thru bridge loops and tie a constrictor knot ABOVE your prussic or ropeman.

^^^this. If ropeman were to eat through the rope, everything below that (carabiner connected to bridge) is going down.
Do I think that is going to happen? No, but people can get a false sense of security if they thin they are backing up that ropeman the way several have suggested in this thread.

I don't contribute much here, but I've been reading for years. And maybe this has been covered before, but here's what I do (please feel free to tell me why this may be dumb/useless):
Ropeman attached to tether, running the bridge through it, but I have a prussic on the tag end that I simply attach to my waist belt (Mantis and Kestrel). I just unclip the waist belt, slide the prussic loop through, and reclip. That way if my ropeman or bridge failed I'd be left hanging by my waste belt, attached to the tether.

Is the waist belt on the Mantis strong enough for that? I've have a similar technique, but I use a carabiner and clip it to a lineman's belt loop. However, if the waist belt is strong enough, I could quit using that second carabiner.

The buckle on both are certainly load rated. Hadn’t really occurred to me that someone would put a load rated buckle on a belt that wasn’t, but I guess that’s why I’m asking.

I'm not sure who you're asking but if you're on even a medium size tree you won't have enough tag end to accomplish that. Obviously there is no limit to how long you make your tether and you could build an extra long custom version to accomplish this. I'm very comfortable connecting to my LB loop with little slack. No, not backing up my Distel but I have no worries that will fail. With a mechanical option (RM1) I would want something above that connection.

I'll never understand why every experienced saddle hunter (not you) doesn't clip the tag end back in to the biner. If the prusik rope or ropeman breaks, this will save your life or at least stop you from falling to the ground. I have been doing it for 13 years, it doesn't get in the way. Oh and its free plus View attachment 23002makes a nice armrest.

save your $$ on a ropeman. They are not rated fall restraint. Stick with knots

I have relegated my ropeman to my bag as a backup device. I haven’t tried it out side my garage but it may get use as a progress capture pulley to help me pull up my backpack with my rappel rope once in the tree.

Mine hangs a bit to the left. Never had any complaints.
