That's what this doohickey is for.....a/c, max clean, acetone.....aluminum is so soft u need to use brand new flapper discs on the grinder or u will force dirt bits of steel or stainless or whatever u were grinding before down into the aluminum that's show on xray...u can see all the impurities float to the top of the weld puddle once u got it flowing

Let’s say we make that high stress area / cross section along the pin 1/8”, heck 3/16” thicker… you think any of this happens? And what do we add to the weight of the stick, 0.2 oz?

I just called tetherd. I received shipping label while on phone. No response when I emailed. So I suggest calling. They said sticks can either be returned for testing or a refund issued. Turn around time testing and shipping was 3-4 weeks. I asked how many have failed. The response was 3-4 sticks. I then asked how are they failing? He said they have been immediate failures. Not failures after repeated use. I then said "so if I just test them all and they don't break I should be good to go?" The repose was that they advise to send them for testing. An expected response for sure. I'm not posting this to crap on tetherd or defend them. Just wanted to pass along the info I had.

Not bashing Tethrd, this is a serious question. Besides the sticks and platform, has anyone noticed quality control issues with their other products? As someone who uses a Tethrd tether this concerns me some. I’ll probably be ordering another companies tether. Thanks.

I have never heard of any issues with their ropes or saddles (aside from comfort), I would trust them without concern on those items.

I had their pouches fail. I got replacements and they failed. All within 2-3 weeks, falling apart.

I wonder if the point of ropes rated to 6000lbs, climbing sticks made with 3/4” stick steps and 1/8” wall tubing and grade 8 hardware, biners rated to 24kn, is beginning to become more obvious to folks who don’t understand why there is so much safety margin built into equipment that is related to leaving the ground…

3-4 is kind of a funny answer. I mean "a few" or "4". Idk, maybe that person didn't know for sure. Just figured they'd be fully briefed on how to take these questions. Still, more information than we've had, so good to know.

I'm pretty surprised they have been "immediate" failures. I guess I figured everyone who bought them would be running to the nearest tree ASAP to try them and it would have come out awhile ago.

I don't know what the testing entails, did you by chance ask? Some folks are concerned about it, but I think it's a wise choice if you plan to keep them. If something did happen, even though they have that Liability clause, I'd think you'd want to say you followed the recall directive.

I have had some pouches go south early on as well, but I will say they were very quickly replaced.

I think even after getting them back from testing the image of the broken stick will be burned in my mind as a constant reminder. I feel I should just return them for refund.

I did climb mine without issue. But climbed them again yesterday to test out and was a little sketched out to be honest.

And that will be with you for the rest of time, even after many climbs if you did keep them. I haven't had a chance to mess with mine since the recall but I don't think I'll be keeping mine either and fear the resell will be poor if I did keep them for a while.

Thanks for the page link. Was able to print return labels and wrote on a copy of the email in the box stating that 2 have loose steps and requesting a refund.

I thought same thing about the answer on number of sticks that broke. It wasn't a very confident response either. I should have asked on testing procedure. Personally I'm going to do some testing this weekend. I'll add wearing a weighted backpack and set almost ground level
