Saddle hunting has made me a better bow hunter and made me understand how to setup and kill more effectively.
With a saddle, I go for concealment more (even if lower to the ground) and instead of trying to setup so I can shoot a bunch of different spots, I simplify and focus on what I think is going to happen and then make sure I'm set up well for just that scenario.
I killed the biggest buck of my life this year, and I think in a regular stand he would've spotted me. In a saddle, I was hidden behind the tree until the very last minute. This also helped me because instead of staring at him and getting more and more nervous....I just stared at the tree and waited.
I can also sit in a saddle all day and change my position here and there and get down without being physically and mentally tired/hurting. Regular stands always made me go stir crazy after 6 hours for some reason. I'd get this claustrophobic feeling like "I'm 20 feet up sitting in a chair strapped to a tree and I can't move....I don't like this....it's weird".
