The official saddle hunting fanny pack /lumbar pack thread

I am running a monster pack this year, or on the days I want to go light. I am going to see how it works with 4 beast sticks strapped on top. I actually am using some paracord to help hold them on. must be a better way. I have a rolled up deer sleigher strapped on the bottom of it. I use the top snap strap to hold the bottom stick to the top of the pack, the paracord ties onto the pack hard support, up over the top stick, thru the water bad holder area, back down the other side wrapped around one of the sticks. sounds fiddly, but not to bad. will see on sat. The Shikar sticks would probably pack better on a pack like this. the beast sticks, you need to be able to fit between the steps, if you turn wrong, fall over backwards, ect... it might not be a good thing. If I am running my LW stand, just strap everything to the stand and go.View attachment 52528

it worked for where I went in, not to deep on my first sit of the year. I’m sure it would work for longer distances. 2nd-4th sits, I took my LW hang in, and used the saddle as a harness /saddle depending on the area. I have been back and forth with the stand vs saddle for the last 4yrs now. The monster pack is boarder line for room. Once it gets cold out, might not cut it with the gear I need to take. I sweat easily, so most layers get carried in. I’m still on the fence with it. Sorry I couldn’t give a better answer.

I’ve been using my monster with a ewo 1 stick and a scout solo with 2/3 steps on the strap. It’s great for early season. 4 novix minis was tough to strap on and get the weight to feel alright. I’m still using gear ties to stow my stick and platform.

Setting my lumbar up tonight with my XOP edge and hawk 20” minis. I’ll post a pic when done. The XOP comes with buckles for attatchment which I thought was neat. Was gonna run a horn hunter g3 until I noticed the clips. Gonna try it after work see how it goes together

Question for anyone with the Alps little bear, I see it has lash down straps on the top, but how about the bottom? Are there any anchor points? I’m wanting to secure my coat to the top and ridge runner to the bottom or Vice versa. Also, is the main compartment pouch just one big dump pouch? Trying to find pics and the internet is being stingy.

Nothing at the bottom and no good lash points it’s 2 pouches I had to heavily modify mine and where the lumber attatched is crap as it bunches up a lot and only being held by Velcro patch. I perfer the platow pack over the little bear any day of the week that’s why I got it it has lash points and the adjustability of it beats the LB

Thanks, that’s the exact info I was looking for. How about the central compartment, does it have any organization?

It has some organization I like it for the 2 seasons I used it but ran out of room pretty quick and when fully pack it bunches up from the lumbar and pack section at the small of your back I had to restitch several areas on the harness I will use it if I’m packing real light under 10# and if I’m stalking because I do like the pouches on side

I picked up the trophyline Platow pack have used it with my saddle set up a d a hang in and I’m really liking it

how is the pals webbing on the belt? mine were unusable with any of my molle compatible pouches and the quick connect tri glides. Only thing i could connect was a carabiner.

I was looking at Elevation Equipped for some target archery stuff, and saw they make a lumbar pack for their hunting line. It was $100 less than the Sitka Tool Belt and bought it. I'll report back with what I find. It won't have the laundry basket on top, but I can lash stuff on with paracord and a canadian jam knot, and for $100 less than Sitka I'll even sew stuff on it if I want to.
My idea with this pack over Sitka Cargo box, is muzzle loader and gun hunting and quick couple hour hunts during bow season in preset loops climbing on ropes with no sticks.

I just picked up the tool belt. Man, it is really nice. I use Elevation stuff for archery. It’s very well made.

Haven’t tried anything on them when I get home from hunting I’ll try and put a pouch on

Well you sold me, have a platow on the way. We’ll see. What bags/pouches are you using with yours, if any?

I’m running a small trophy line dump pouch on my right side to hold my tether and pull rope haven’t figured what I want on left yet I wear my saddle in and if I didn’t I still have plenty of room to put into pouch I strap my UP or scout one stick to bottom of pack and got my total pack set up to 16 to 17# including my stick and rappel rope it wears pretty darn good. I will try to get pic up later today

Not being able to attach a Doyle’s hoist was a deal killer for me. It’s unclear whether it was a manufacturing defect.

I admit the molle is tight but if you pull and stretch you should be able to get it in if not the get a piece of webbing 3/4 attatch it to pouch and use tri glides to attatch. I was able to slide my 3 throphy line pouches in but I had to work it in i use a needle nose pliers to pull thru. I wish they made the spacing 1 1/4” and then stitch then their would be no problem

I plan on using EWO pouches as TL doesn’t seem to have them in stock right now. I don’t use a Doyle’s so that doesn’t really bother me. The top and bottom compartment straps have me all sorts of excited, now I don’t have to bug @always89y to sew something in the middle of the season.
