The Wraith

This thing fits the bill for me. Super comfy! I hung in the basement off an I-beam for awhile so it's obviously not a true test but I'll give it a shot this evening on a hunt. Thanks for sharing @Bwhana. Feel free to criticize the stitching or any other issues you guys see. I hung off of it with the wife :tongueout: and everything seemed to hold great. I purposely didn't include lineman loops since I'm not a fan of 'em.

Losing the linesman belt cuts more weight, maybe we can get one down to a 1/4 lb one day!

My butt would be so made at me, I might turn that thing into a thong!
These measurements may not be exactly right for you, but that's what I said you may have to tweak to fit. Not saying it is equal to an AH Flex, but it will surprise you how little it really takes to have an acceptable level of comfort. I didn't know if this would work when I got started on it, but turned out well.

That's awesome man! I'm just a bigger dude and would need maybe a third and fourth strap haha!

To that point I saw @flinginairos and @g2outdoors in videos demonstrate using their backband under you legs for additional comfort and it works extremely well the the Wraith as a step up in comfort. It will work with any saddle and may help all the bigger guys out there too.

3rd hunt with it, about time for blood stains!

Do you think the wraith would work well with the main fleece in the middle as compared to straps? Just curious if tha twould increase the comfort level. Also, It looks like you've got a huge chunk of ham hanging off this side over here. Is that not a pressure point?

I have ended up using the Wraith in conjunction with my fleece saddle for the most part, outside of a handful of hunts. I have already thought about making it deeper front to back, no reason fleece couldn't go in there. The goal for the Wraith was to go as small and light as possible and it did that. I have spent the most time this fall in a basic Wraptor (the one without a belt, linesman, or fleece section), and have been just fine with it.

I made a wraith with fleece and one with mesh, both about 15” deep. Have done short sits in it alone but mainly just use it under a fleece saddle.

Introducing my latest DIY saddle...the WRAITH.

My inner weight weenie kicked into gear after the Wraptor project and I started down the minimalist path. I tried various concepts, got input from the Wraptor Pro Staff (Barry, @KelvinM12, @Nutterbuster, @Wasp), and consulted with others from the site. @John Eberhart was a big inspiration; if he could use part of an Anderson for so many years, there had to be a simpler design that still works. This may be the lightest and simplest saddle out there that does not require an RCH backup. To paraphrase @DaveT1963, all saddles come down to just a couple of straps under your butt in the tree, and this certainly fits that model! So far in testing, it has similar comfort to the Wraptor, but I will be using a back band for most sits due to my torn disc. It is a little more comfortable for leaning than sitting. It feels 100x better than an RCH when used with a fleece saddle and that will be my main combo if it ever gets below 50 again here in my lifetime. NOTHING beats a fleece saddle for best comfort for me!

This saddle weighs in at less than 1/2 lb, uses a T hook for the belt buckle (only metal component), has dedicated linesman belt/loops and a belt (not load bearing!) to keep it in place while walking in and climbing. There are no molle loops because I do not like attaching anything to my saddles.

The other picture is a new Tethrd style back band I made from some leftover materials to go with the Wraith (thanks to @Erniepower for sharing the recent DIY video series for inspiration and @g2outdoors for all the DIY vids that planted saddle seeds that grew).

Components and measurements:

- 12 feet of mil spec 2" polyester webbing (a Wraptor kit from @DanO doublesteps.com for around $16 shipped will make 2 Wraiths)
- Main loop = 86" (allows a 6" sewn overlap, 40" finished saddle width)
- Front to back stiffeners = 20" x 2
- Center side to side piece (optional) = 10"
- 1" tubular climbing webbing for linesman (28" finished length from end to end)
- 1" flat nylon or polyester webbing for the belt (length to fit you)
- Tethrd T hook for belt
- 1" webbing tri-glide (or sew a loop for belt)
- bridge of your choosing (I am using amsteel)
- change these measurements to your desired sizing

The Wraptor / Wraith Pro Staff, is looking for new members, only costs $100/person, send $ to IWantToBeaWraptor@pay.bwhana. jk! If you already made a Wraptor, or make a Wraith, you're on the Pro Staff, so add that to your hunting resume and site signature, it sounds cool!

What thread did you use and where did you get it?

I had this sewn for me since I do not have a commercial sewing machine. I am pretty sure it was Gutermann Tera 60 or maybe even 80 for this one. Since I am not a sewer, I would recommend searching some of the other sewing chats on the site where they have discussed thread types to confirm you use the proper thread and stitching (usually a simple lock stitch for saddle use) if you plan to do it yourself. In no way would I advise using a Speedy Stitcher or non-commercial machine for any saddle to be used without an rch backuo.

This is great on many levels! Definitely putting one together!
Quick question then, when using with a fleece saddle do you hook up two bridges(wraith/fleece). Or attach fleece bridge to tether and loops on wraith to another prusik(like you would w rch?) TIA!

It is just like using an rch in that manner with 2 bridges connected to the tether. The benefit of the Wraith over an rch is the built in linesman loops. The only suggestion I would have before making your own is check the dimensions for you and tweak them. When I make another, I will likely make it deeper front to back. I was going for the lightest and smallest possible the first time around and achieved it, but a little more there would make it more comfortable for longer sits.

Sweet. Thanks
Tweak that size yes, 12-14” maybe instead of 10”. And adjust overall loop (86”) accordingly probably.
