The Wraptor

I gave the sitdrag a fair shot, just didn't feel good for me, especially having to have the rch with it.

Lol just poking at you buddy. I have to admit I don’t use a rc with it. Just a linesman. I do have a rc for the fleece saddle which may be why I don’t use one often.

I know, didn't take it bad at all and wish it was legal here btw! I do think a double sitdrag would be very comfortable, but never had a chance to try one. Going to try a military riggers belt made to hang from helicopters with the fleece saddle, should make it simpler than an rch.

I finally got to sit in my v2 last night. v1 was shiny gold and used the round rings. It was comfy but needed some improvement.

v2 is a nice olive drab color, uses these triangular rings - Fusion Climb Prevail Drop Forged Alloy Steel Single Slotted D-Ring 5-Pack - and has a permanent 3/16" amsteel bridge connected with splice & girth hitch on one side and improved soft shackle on the other.

No metal on metal anywhere, nice and quiet. The new rings feel lighter and don't slide around as much. I didn't like the round rings because it allows the straps to move around a lot and it was hard to keep them laying flat. The new rings solve that. It weighs in at 13 ounces, including bridge & shackle. I made it a little bigger than my v1 version and for the half hour I tried it out, it was extremely comfortable (I'm a leaner).

I held it up with a bungee just like Bwhana demonstrated previously. I can girth hitch a linesman belt to the same triangle ring on one side, around the tree and back to the saddle with ropeman/carabiner that gets removed when not in use. I'll be using a turkey vest to carry gear, so I don't need molle loops, a battle belt, or pouches attached to it. It rolls up and fits in a pocket and is pretty dang simple.

Against some valid recommendations elsewhere on this site, I'm planning to use the soft shackle to connect my bridge to one side of my saddle (after some more testing). Initially, no problems whatsoever. I'm also risking life by replacing a rope tether with a woven daisy chain. This is a risk I can back down from with real ropes if I have to. I'm a big guy, plus I put on a backpack with some weights in it and am pretty sure I was near 300 lbs test weight, and was bouncing, pulling, dropping and leg-pressing against the tree, trying to stress the tether, bridge & shackle - with no visible stress showing up on any of the pieces during or after. Not sold on it for the season yet, but so far so good.

Thanks for sharing the plans & progress on this. I'll post some pictures when I remember to take some.

Thanks for sharing your success!

Man, solving that problem is a game changer. @Bwhana and I sewed the straps together at the rings for me, and it solved the problem nicely.

Just a few ugly stitches using the sewing awl and 65lb test braided fishing line! Sew it just close to the ring and tight enough to hold well, but still allow free movement. Solved the slop and movement for us, but I still think the @DanO rings with slot provide the best webbing management. I weighed mine the other day right at 1.0 lbs on the dot as is with 1/4" fixed amsteel bridge. The heaviest parts are the rings.

@kyler1945, I have to admit that @Bwhana is quite the sewer. Being how humble he is, he would never tell you, but he also knitted a pretty nice skull cap for himself for this upcoming bow season...

I read that as sewer as in the place where dookie goes......and it made perfect sense
You and Kelvin are alot alike, you both live in a state where your favorite teams are irrelevant! Side note, I am so ready for some football!

Nice! I like the way the straps run in those buckles. Already feeling a new one coming for me as well, with a few new wrinkles to boot!

I'm not 100% clear on how you are connecting to the soft shackle with the bridge, just a knot? That would bother me at height, but as you stated, it is an informed choice you made for yourself, so I respect that.

Interesting for sure, I was not familiar with that knot. I found this one where it tested to 72kN, so I would say there should be no issue with your setup! Just be careful tying and burying properly.

Everyone reading this should look down at the veins in the arm real quick. Do you see it? That is your inner Blue Devil (or Wildcat) waiting to come out. God made you the correct way, you just choose to follow the wrong team!
