Thermacell recommendations

The fan is louder than you think it is

Hehehe, I guess it would help if I actually put a reply in. Anyway I agree the fan is much louder than what you would think. I was noticing that there were hardly any mosquitoes around or getting bit because of these little things but I kept hearing this buzzing sound. And I finally figured out it was those fans. It's a shame because they really worked well but we kept the fans on because we were just walking around the woods scouting. There's absolutely no way you can have that fan running while you were hunting in my opinion. I did like the fact that you didn't have to carry butane any of that foolishness they seem pretty simple not much to break.

I don’t leave home without two. Have bugtamer and only use it in wind. Thermacell wafers have eucalyptus oil in them to keep the bugs away. They have eucalyptus mulch that you can use in landscaping to keep bugs out of you flowers also. In the swamp it’s necessary to have one but they don’t work in the wind. I’ve watched a lot of deer walk all around me and never had one blow because of it that didn’t scent me first.

my quote from the thread "game changing equipment"

"Thermacell without question. If I was forced to choose any accessory outside of the clothes on my back and my bow, it wins hands down. I don't know what I did before I owned this thing. I am surprised on a daily basis in south Louisiana that I encounter people who haven't heard of it. I keep two in pack, one in truck, and one at home."

I actually think i'd place it above my bow in order of importance, and chance just being able to jump out of the tree onto a deer's back before giving up the thermacel. I'd say at least half the deer I've killed in last ten years I've had the thermacell on.

They are a necessity in the swamps here in Florida. First year I hunted here I didn’t have one and was miserable. Had everything I had in my pack on trying to cover any exposed skin. Now I carry two and run both of them at once in early season. When the larvae bust and swarm I’m grateful to the guy that came up with them. The yellow flies on the other hand OMG.

Dryer sheets tucked under your hat, hanging partially out, work well for yellow flies but im not sure how deer react to their smell. They are at least good for scouting.

It is a necessity especially early season. I have had many deer under me which never spooked or noticed i was there. Bugs go away which makes all the difference so you can focus on the hunt. I recommend the original one the green colored one. It has the best case to with a little carabiner attached you can hang it on your gear hanger or pack and not worry.
