First off I Love my Zipper Recurve bow and will not be getting rid of it. But now I want to try a Long Bow. I’ve been looking around and the Toelke Whistler has really caught my attention. What’s your guys thoughts?
I had a Pika, Toelkes are great quality bows, beautiful and quick. I couldn’t get used to the grip on mine and sold it pretty soon after it arrived. I was just up at Jim Belchers place (Bivouac) and he makes some really fine longbows.
I got his number if you are interested, pm me.
He wash the hog guts and gator slime off of it?

No way. That adds value. He wash the hog guts and gator slime off of it?
Good and accurate point!!No way. That adds value.
Toelke is a great bow and they do not have near the wait time of other bowyers. They have their processes down pat and are a pleasure to deal with. I shoot a one piece chinook and haven’t wanted another bow since I got it.
Dan Toelke can have any bow he wants. He told me he when I ordered mine that he is shooting a Whistler that is a couple of years old now but can’t seem to put it down. I think you will be happy for many years to come. I used to have bow itis having to buy a new bow all the time. I haven’t thought about anything except ordering another chinook with different woods to be a backup. I ordered my Toelke in April of 2020 and he told me 5 weeks wait. It took 4.5 weeks to my door. I have previously waited as much as 6 months for a bow and I found that long waits do not necessarily lead to better bows. They have great customer service. Now what are the woods and specs that you ordered?? What grip?? New customers get a bow stringer and all bows come with two strings. I’m still on my second string. Their strings are endless loop and are incredible and super strong and I won’t order anything else. This is coming from a guy that previously had a string company. Can’t say enough good things. Here are some pictures of mine. I never get tired of this bow. It’s name is shadow fax and is penned on the bow.I really like my Zipper Recurve but also wanting to try a longbow. Ordered my Whistler earlier this evening. Now it's just a waiting game....

One thing I want to mention is this. I have talked to many bowyers and he did something none of the others did. It speaks to his craft and his knowledge. Previous conversations bowyers tend to say “yes I can do that” with little input themselves. I told him I wanted a super d and he asked my draw, which is 26.5. He told me the super d doesn’t come alive until near 28 inches. He told me that if I came to his shop he would put a pika, Whistler, or chinook in my hands. But would not consider a super d for me. Sometimes the customer does not know what they actually want. I went a completely different direction and went recurve. Don’t regret a thing. I’m glad that he had the nerve to make his opinion known and when talking woods he knows the properties of the woods and what will work well and what will not.
Excellent choice. I love the classic grip with the beaver tail. I told him I wanted Birdseye maple and he said I have some but it isn’t very pretty. But I have some amazing curly maple. So that’s what I went with. My bow shoots better than it even looks. I have only one other bow it’s equal and that maker isn’t in business anymore and it’s my backup bow.Holy Smokes that thing is Pretty. Dan and I talked and told him my draw length and what weight I wanted to pull back and I mentioned I was thinking about the 60" Whistler. He agreed with me and said I should love it. I was torn on the woods.....I had 2 schemes so to say. One being all black glass with Osage overlays. The other being Micarte Riser with Dark Mango veneers and Dark Indian Rose wood overlays. Dan laughed and said that's the exact wood combo he had. So not wanting to have a replica of his bow I went with Cocobolo instead.
