Is that a fray, or the end of the burry working its way out? Looks like it could be the burry (equidistant from the crux and approximately in the right spot on your bridge).

I had the same thing when my mantis showed up. It was the tag end of the bury, pushed it back in and on I went

Dam i sure hope so. We got an ol man with a neck fusion and a heart attack hangin from this thing who cant afford to fall even 2 ft

Those are the tail end of the buries. Nothing to worry about.

So no one's found a good way to finish off the end of cut amsteel? (Yes, you should take this as a challenge :) )

I just put it in my fly tying vise and wrap it with my whip finisher.

Just the tail of the splice poking through. Happens all the time.

You can avoid this by not tapering the end of the bury, and wrapping it with a small strip of electrical tape.... BUT, that makes the splice look really bad, and it won’t slide as well through a carabiner, because it will put a big ‘ol fat spot in the rope.

I wouldn’t add anything to the amsteel bury, though, because it could reduce the friction required to maintain manufacturer’s specs on splices.
