New to this site. And saddle hunting. I have never sat in one. But I have been thinking about getting one. How well do they work shooting trad bows from??.. I worry about it being difficult with the added length of a longbow. Any thoughts or experiences??

Welcome! I've only ever shot trad. from a saddle. Piece of cake. Practice this summer, and I will promise you will be able to make more shot angles in every direction than you ever would be able to make out of any hang on. After over 30 years of killing deer from climbers and hang on's even my old Screaming eagles with the larger platform, nothing comes close.

I'm hunting trad this year out of a saddle as well. @100rollie is right on and extremely practiced and knowledgable. Take what he says to heart, practice and be super familiar with your setup and you should be good!

I hunt with recurves and last season was my first with a saddle. I do not use a mini platform because I prefer a ring of ameristeps ( comfort )and If you use a ring of steps there will be some awkward feeling when drawing at the different angles. A saddle is great but with a trad bow a mini platform is probably better. I had to drop to lighter limbs ( about 10 lbs less ) and that worked for me. Its a fun process , give it a try I think you will like it , just start sooner than later to dial everything in.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a saddle bought. I am in need of some sort of platform. I was leaning towards the ring of steps or wild edge steps. If any of you have an extra set for sale. Please let me know. Thank you again for all the help. Seems like a great place here!!!

You will be pleasantly surprised when you practice shooting out of your saddle. I suggest you put in a couple to a few practice sessions to get to know your limitations. There are limitations and difficulties with certain shots. Some are very easy to pull off some not so much. The more you practice your limitations will become fewer.

I arrowed this one a couple years back from the Evo.

It's like the other guys have said it's a great match between the saddle and the traditional bow. My bow here is 64" long and can sometimes be tough maneuvering in a regular stand. In the saddle, it seems to give you much more room to draw and gain backtension without worrying about the tree trunk or stand hitting the bottom of your limbs.
