Trail cams and public lands.

I hate thiefs, I've lost a lot of nice gear over the years. Hunting is the ultimate ethics test, all alone, just you and God, seems like for many that isn't enough to keep them honest. I really wish the hunting community would stop hurting themselves like that is a camera or tree stand really worth it?

For the folks that climb up to place cameras do you have any issue with cameras being stolen?

Most people don't see my cams at 10'

Thanks guys any recommendations for camera mounts? I'm guessing at 10-15 you need to angle it down, or are there cameras that come with that kinda thing?

I don't use mounts bears "destroy" my cams as is. They'd tear them off. Couple The new browning cams have built in adjustment with them like the 3 I'm trying to sell. The other is a hd pro that has the adjustment. I've always just used a stick and angled them though and has worked in the past. Like the pic below

I set mine about 10 feet with a stick to angle it down also. I only use cheap cameras on public land and don’t get as many photos when elevated like that. The beam on the motion sensors are pretty narrow top to bottom so when you elevate one make sure you check it to make sure it will pick up the trail you want it pointing at.

On long Island I believe hunters steal you stuff for intimidation purposes. they think they own that piece of public land and they don't want you there. That's why I bought a saddle, nobody will know where I'm hunting now. I use lock boxes and put them in thick areas or other areas most hunters avoid. I put them out in September and pull in January before the season ends. I check them at the most once a week if that.

I made a homemade mount for mine. I believe @diyhunter made a video about it.

I hang mine up high like 10-12’. I do my best to put them somewhere where people will be concentrating on watching where they’re walking or looking down that way they’re not as likely to see them. I’ve used the $25 tasco cams and they work pretty well. My favorite cheap Cam I used this past year is the below moultrie cam.

I am running about 7 seven tascos lol. I love the price. How much is the Moultrie going for these days?

Set mine about 15 feet and last year I had none stolen .

I was doing that to 12 to 15 feet up a tree .... they still climbed up with bolt cutters to cut the cable..... it really is sad , its like a free for all public land.

ive heard the reasons from both guys that use them and then those that don’t, I can great points with both.

Those that do use them on public lands I would like to know a few things.

How long do you typically keep them out?
Do you do anything to prevent them from being stolen?
Do you focus on particular locations?(scrapes, food source, trails, bedding, thick cover etc
How many do you typically end up having stolen?
How many are climbing high up trees to use them?
I like to have mine stay out for any where for couple weeks to a month. I haven't had one stolen yet. I choose well travels game paths wallows and rubs. All the cam I put out are chest high with great results.
