Tree Stand Packs

I almost pulled the plug on the badlands tree stand pack, but it did not have a tubing hole in the top for the water bladder.

I have that pack and I don’t use the tube but it is supposed to have it, i looked when I bought mine and is rather funky but believe it does have the ability it even mentioned a bladder for one

I does have the compartment inside for a bladder.

I have a Bison gear Fanny pack with straps that used when carrying in my stand and sticks. I'm thinking it will work perfectly now with my kestrel and sticks. Really looking forward to a lighter load even though my stand sites are less than a mile in and most around a 1/4 mile.

I was back in Cabela's this afternoon. I was looking an Eberlstock Elk Pack. Has a fold down rifle boot, and built in bow carrier.

I liked that it has a Molle system so you can lash sticks, platform, WE to it. Plenty of room for rain gear, spikes, wafter bladder extra clothes &saddle inside if you wish.

Only concern it seems a little big for a tree pack.

Thoughts?

As a seasoned hunter, former marine I know the advantages of a good Pack. The problem I have is being a big guy you need extra space for gloves, rain gear, water etc.

@BassBoysLLP said he was looking at the Direct Action Dragon Egg & Ghost packs. I ended up going with the ghost because the dragon egg is not offered in woodland and it is on sale. It does not look woodland will be offered in the 2018 offerings. Amazon Prime has it listed for $169.00. Buying direct from Direct Action it is $114.00 including shipping. I do not have much more than a mile or so walks so I am not worried about an internal or external frame or a meat shelf for packing out. I think this will be a good compromise for a good all around SH hunting Pack.

What packs are most of you gents using in the tree if any? I know sone of you use a larger pack hiking in and ditch that for a smaller pack.

Just want to form a good buying decision before anything is bought. I, as most of us do not have the $$$ that &g2 has. :tearsofjoy:
I use a field&stream pronghorn XL backpack and a Badlands monster fanny pack. I am also waiting for Paqlite to come out with their XL outpaq . It's a small pack that goes over your one shoulder. Boswell uses one, I was very interested in it. It's very lite and small.

I agree with you on the Cabela's Scout Elite hunting pack. Of all the packs I previously mentioned, this is my go to pack. It's carries what I need most of the time and has a low profile as well. I use an aider and carry three original 32" Lone Wolf sticks or three modified 24" double step Lone Wolf sticks. What kind of sticks do you pack on your Scout Elite?

Sorry for the delay........I carry 3 muddy pros with 3 step aiders on each. Yes they are a bit heavy but that is why I like this pack. It keeps them tight to your back. I throw them in the “pouch” and the straps go between the tree bracket and the steps. Keeps them very secure. I’m considering making my own sticks so I may have to modify the straps making them longer to accommodate a longer stick. I imagine the fixed steps will fit but will have to be turned against my back.

I really like a Molly system to lash things down. So many packs out there. Everyone has their own ideas and needs for a pack. I am hoping the one I just purchased fills the need. I believe it will.

You are correct. There is a lot of packs out there. Makes you wish you could take everything you want to carry for a hunt into the store and load up a few packs to see just what you like. My problem has been that I shop online and travel to the store to look at all the options, only to find out that they actually only stock about 1/10th of the packs they had online. It’s hard to buy online and get a good feel for the pack. It’s hard to read reviews on packs because we have different needs than the mainstream. With some of the less popular packs it’s hard to find a place to get your hands on one. This can lead to a lot of buy and try, and hope you can recoup your funds when you find out you don’t like it or you have your eye on something that may work better. Even us saddle hunters have different opinions on packs, different climbing methods we want to pack, gear we want to pack, distances we travel to the tree, different body types, and different preferences. Maybe the only way to get the perfect pack is to design and make one, or have one made. This could be the perfect job for tethrd - the one stop saddle shop. If I decide to go from a ring of steps to the predator, I may change my opinion on the pack I’m using yet again.

I'm going to give this pack a try. My goal is to have everything I need to make a game time decision on if I will hunt from a tree or the ground.
I will pack down all my saddle gear in the large pocket, including some WE stepps (though I want to learn Sam's stealth climbing method to avoid stepps or sticks) then in the smaller front pocket have my custom swamp stool, with a hole in the bottom so the post can extend down. Plenty of smaller pouches for other gear.

I does have the compartment inside for a bladder.

Let me be clear, it doesn’t have the tube and bladder but supports same. The routing for the tube is clunky but there. I just carry water bottles tho.

That is my biggest complaint with a lot of the hunting packs. Elbrecht’s Elk has a great Molle system. But for me me it was too big for Tree Stand Pack. Badlands would have my business on their Tree Stand Pack if it had a Molle system.

85% of the time I was always a put everything in my pockets kind of guy

The only times I would use a pack would be if i had to carry in a heavy layer or it was a planned All day hunt

Once I started in a saddle I realized it wasn’t all that easy to get into my pockets and was nice to have a way to store some saddle gear

I hunt from the ground quite a bit and wear a turkey vest for this it’s a very basic vest that I had cut the seat off it’s got a couple of big dump pockets for calls and 2 big zippered pockets and the big back pouch for carrying your turkey out so I took this same vest and started wearing it out of saddle and love it

Also now I have the same vest for both styles of hunting and will hunt from saddle at ground level if the opportunity and cover allow it

Its nice to have some above saddle storage and allowed me to take the pouches off my saddle which I never liked

I can fit clothes in back and plenty of big pockets for rope etc. I do hang it in tree sometimes if I am skylighted or still have outer layer in the back but 90% of the time I just wear it while in the tree

now that I think about it last year was the only time I went all season without ever wearing a back pack and it worked very good for my style
