Turkey vest for saddle hunting

Do any of you use a turkey vest to carry your saddle hunting stuff? I've been going back and forth between my back pack and my monster fanny pack ever since I switched from sticks to Wild Edge Stepps and I wasn't happy with either one. I had the thought to try my turkey vest out and it works great. My steps , knee pads and saddle go in the game bag and my lineman rope on the left side pocket, my tether in the right pocket and plenty of other pockets for my other stuff. Once in the tree I just keep it on and don't have to worry about hanging a pack to where it's out of the way. If your using a compact climbing system this might be something to try if your like me and not happy with back packs.

Good idea. I may try that.

On the other side of that coin, I plan on trying to use my saddle this year to turkey hunt. Ditch the vest and put all my calls in the molle bags. Set up and attach tether to the tree. That way I’m behind the tree (more hidden) and can rotate to the right or left is he comes in from an unanticipated direction.

Should make less noise when shifting around as well.

Report back how this works. Pretty interesting idea. I would just be worried about being busted if he comes in quietly and you need to peek around the tree to see him

Been using one for 30 years. Can’t beat it. The Tenzing bv 15 bird vest is similar but even better. Carries the weight better and you can cinch it up tighter to the tree for a smaller profile. I use it to put me knees into instead of knee pads. Pockets are great and has the big game pouch to stuff clothes and larger stuff into.

I plan to use one of my vests this fall too. I used my diy saddle for turkey a lot this past spring and ended my season with a second bird from it. Hiding behind the tree instead of in front works on turkeys and deer equally well!

Dove hunting vest works well to as it is well vented and doesn’t get as hot as some turkey vests that have a full cloth back

Will do. Hopefully you hear him walking and have gun pointed at him when he slips in.
But down here where I hunt it’s so thick, sometimes you look and he’s just appeared like a ghost.

I used to use a turkey vest out of a climber. It was a great asset. I was considering using on again with a saddle.

Been using my turkey vest in lieu of a backpack for better than 10 years. It keeps everything organized and where I can find it. Separate pockets for my binocs, rangefinder, camera and other gear. No time spent digging in the bottom of a pack for some loose piece of equipment.

The game pouch is big enough to comfortably carry my platform, WE stepps, or climbing stick depending on what I'm using along with my camera arm. I can easily climb with it on my back and then I can just pull the platform from the pouch when I get to height.

Once in the tree I hang the vest so it wraps around the tree, at that point all the big stuff I carry in the game pouch is attached to the tree and its empty so it lays flat. The pockets are oriented where I can reach them and there's no additional silhouette in the tree like a full pack.

Something I haven't done but occurred to me this year is I can leave the seat attached (I have always removed it for deer season) and it would make a great knee pad against the tree.

Yes Sir, I agree. I carry sticks, saddle ect. in mine. I can even carry my bow with it if I wanted.
Can you post a few pics of your sticks packed and everything in the game bag. I use LW sticks which are longer but just trying to grapple the packing concept. Also, could you include a pic or two of packing the bow. That peeks my interest too.

Not sure how much these pictures show but perhaps that is a good point. In this vest I am carrying 3 modified helium sticks, platform, required straps, sit-drag, linemans belt and all of the other general bow hunting gear I carry everytime. This load out is very quiet, light and comfortable. I also like how everything is contained, meaning nothing strapped to the outside which could possibly fall off or snag.
