Using a kayak for access...

Personally I’ve never understood the kayak craze. They track well but the layout and carrying capacity surely leaves a good bit to be desired for me. When considering a vessel of that size I’d rather take a pirogue, they are more versatile. In the original post you mentioned being a larger fella, knowing that I’d look for something with higher sides than a kayak.

What you think these boys know about a pirogue?!

And shhhhhhhh. Keep it that way!

Lol, I have a source of huge styrofoam blocks. Thought of gluing them up and carving out with a chainsaw... Then stumbled across a killer deal so I bought a Fishing kayak. I has a 375 load, i'll be fine.

I just ordered the Acsend 10T. It went on sale $150 off at Cabela’s/Bass Pro, so at $399 I had to give it a try. It’s open concept looks like it has adequate storage for saddle hunting (or even stand hunting) gear and an animal if the hunt is successful, especially these Alabama deer, they are small. From my research people say it tracks much better if there is a little weight up front (keeps nose down and keel cuts better) so I will store my sticks and pack up front in the spacious front area. If I harvest a deer, the gear will move to the back and the deer will ride up front. The preset D rings in front and back storage look great for holding gear or a deer. I looked at the 12ft and it is nice but I didn’t have storage for a 12ft boat and the cost was twice as much with the sale. Plus it was 30lbs heavier. If it doesn’t work out well, I’m sure I can get almost all my money back on Craigslist. After I win the lottery I may look at getting a NuCanoe or Wilderness Systems kayak.

I have paddled a Perception Striker SOT (500lb capacity) for the past few years and love it... especially for fishing. However, generally any kayak that has a high weight capacity is not gonna paddle/track as well as a more streamline model. I avoid up-current paddles as much as possible on the river. I do access my hunting areas primarily from a lake so it's not often an issue for me but there are some public land spots I'd like to hit along the river but don't because of the strong current I'd have to fight on the way out. My next "investment" will be a small john boat with motor for accessing these areas.

Kayaks are a game changer where I hunt, I can get to areas most don't want to walk. I've tried several and right now settled on a Vibe Maverick 120 SUP/kayak hybrid which is basically a blank platform to do what you want with. Vibe is out of stock right now but Elkton Outdoors makes a knockoff version for significantly cheaper. They're foam filled and can handle 475lbs. They're pretty easy to attach a trolling motor to for upstream hunts. https://www.amazon.com/Elkton-Outdo...outdoors+ibis&qid=1562939905&s=gateway&sr=8-1 BKC also makes a SUP/Kayak hybrid but they aren't foam filled. https://www.amazon.com/Brooklyn-Kayak-Company-Paddleboard-Adventure/dp/B07JBR6454 Kaku is a great company to look at as well if you have deeper pockets.

I bought a sea vibe 110, 62 lbs easily loaded with 1 Guy. 425 weight limit. I added a trolling motor50lb thrust and battery. Does really well in current. Currently trying to mod motor to fix in the back and use existing pedal tear for rudder to steer the motor but still in progress. In the past I have tied the deer to the opposite side of the motor and floated deer out with no issues
