Using Bike AS a Game Cart

I have seen a few pictures on the internet of people using their bike AS a game cart. (Not pulling an additional game cart)

How many of you have actually tried this? Did it work well, or is it not really feasible? Looking for real world experience...

I could see where it might work if you gutted a deer, put some sort of cover on your seat (trash bag, plastic cover, etc), and positioned the deer so that the seat was inside the cavity. Lash the front legs to the handle bars with paracord. I am wondering if the back legs would be in the way or get caught in the rear tire spokes...

Thoughts?

Dang that is an awesome idea...gave me an idea too if I hunt with someone else and use two bikes! What an idea holds bows, packs and deer thanks man!

I saw a guy doing just this a couple years ago. Seemed to work pretty well for him.

If it’s gun season tie on a couple of XL orange leaf bags.
Also there’s a vid on YouTube of a guy riding the deer on the bike.

I wouldn’t recommend it on public during rifle season!

That’s hilarious. LOL

Gotta say though that would work pretty nice with an e-bike.

Would help to have a rear rack like the road bike has in the OP. I think it's a great idea if you have a bike you don't care about getting trashed with blood.

When I still lived at home in Michigan, I used to use this technique during rifle season and it worked very well... awkward and goofy looking absolutely, but we as hunters overcome and adapt to situations and use what we got in order to get the job done. A little bit of context here, my dad and I hunted public property swamp that was landlocked by private property, we have permission from one of the land owners to access the swamp via their property and have given us a key to their gate. This is awesome during bow season because the gate is a little over a mile from the start of the swamp, so we would drive the truck to the swamp and walk in from there. We had multiple stands in the swamp but all averaged at least 1/4 mile back, so being able to park at the start of the swamp was a huge time saver. The property owners did however request that during rifle season, we park at the gate due to where they had ground blinds set along the two tracks that went from the gate to the swamp and driving back would interfere with their hunting. So how do you decrease the amount of time it takes to go the roughly 1.25 mile total to the stand and not work up a sweat? Well you find a few cheap beat up mountain bikes (I dumpster dove for mine) spray paint some cammo pattern of your choice on it and trick it out with one of those big cushy gel seats. After a successful hunt and not wanting to mess up the property owners hunt by driving vehicles back to collect our deer, we would place the field dressed deer on the bike like it was riding the bike... picture this if you will, front legs on the handle bars and tie the back legs off on each of the pedals and letting the weight of the deer distribute however it wanted (typically the head would lay on the handle bar as well) then you walk beside the bike pushing it along like your supposed to walk a bike across the road at a cross walk. The property owners used to make fun of us for doing it and let us know that if we got a deer, they would understand us driving back to pick them up, however it was a courtesy thing to continue using the bikes as to not ruin their hunt.

It's actually funny that this thread was started, as a hunting buddy of mine and I were just discussing this very topic last week due to some public land we are currently hunting and how to most easily access the back parts of the property without having to walk the entire way. Access from a closer spot is again limited by private property, though those owners are not as receptive to allowing us to walk through their property to access the public land and shorten the walk. His reaction when I mentioned using a cheap bike as both transport for us as well as a "deer cart" was priceless. I only wish I had some pictures of the old man and myself wheeling our deer out on the bikes but oh the fond and everlasting memories I will have of those moments.

Cool story!

It works. It's pretty top heavy, so it's a little tough to keep them upright and rolling, but it sure beats dragging them for 2 miles.
