Versa/Versa Lite Strap!!!

Just placed an order after seeing these used at saddlepalooza, Going to throw these on my beast sticks and predator, I'm already kind of regretting not ordering an extra for a gear tether though!

I did pull tests at the local university on my stitching on the 3/4" webbing. I had breaks from 2500 to 3000 pounds. Multiple straight stitching is a common replacement to using a bar tack. A bar tack requires a specialized machine which I don't have (yet). I also use specialized needles for webbing. They push the webbing fibers out of the way as the needle passes through versus tearing them. This helps maintain the original strength of the webbing. I also use a special silicone bonded T90 thread. When I'm rocking these straps out the needle can get hot at times. The silicone bonding on the thread helps to keep it from fraying or being cut by the needle eye due to the heat.
Carl you mentioned a specialized needle to avoid tearing the webbing. I am told to avoid pointed leather needles but that most others will do. Do you have a specific model that you could reference?

Thanks

A ball point needle.

Will the versa strap fit over the Stacked Step? There were some at saddlepalooza '19. I ordered 4. The "button" is 2 inch D-shape.
Jx3 ( John who owns Guidos' Web) had some Stacked Steps for reference.

I have a set of helium sticks coming into today that have the Versa Lite straps on them. I also have a set that have the rope mods as well. Looking forward to comparing them. I was surprised just how tight the rope held the sticks.

What length are you guys using for a gear strap - the 8’? Going to place an order for some lites and a regular for my sticks and predator. Wanted to get one to use for a gear strap like Greg shows in his YouTube video.

I had Carl make a gear strap for me. It is made of the Versa Lite Strap material but has more open loops. 6’. Works great. I use it as an aider as well.

Nice - thanks for the feedback. I’ll message him about getting something similar.

I saw earlier in this thread you mentioned about going back to the buckle strap on your predator platform. What was your final experience for using a Versa strap in this situation? Were you able to get the platform to cam lock and get tight to the tree with the strap?

Sometimes the strap worked but I have some hunts where I have to screw with it too much. I just think the buckle strap is so easy to adjust and therefore get the Predator Platform to cam tight. It wraps around the platform slick too for packing. It’s really no disadvantage compared to a Versa strap. On the other hand, if you have too much slack in the Versa strap it can slip down the tree while you’re trying to set the platform and you have to keep grabbing it and sliding it back up while at the same time trying to position the platform.
The problem with the predator platform is that the platform itself is always in the way when you hook on the strap. With the buckle strap you can let it down a ways and hook on the strap to the button and then put the platform back up and tighten the strap. With a Versa strap you want to use the tightest loop you can to get it as tight as you can, but you need the platform folded up to get the tightest loop over the button but then the platform is in the way as you try to work the Versa strap over the button. Hope that makes sense.

Makes sense...I'm thinking I'll go this route buckle for the platforms and versa lite straps for everything else. Thanks again for the feedback.

That's how I've decided to rig. LW buckle for predator, versa straps for short heliums, amsteel for short diy sticks. Actually put bungee at the end of my rope (like the versa straps) to keep everything clean. Have been fine-tuning and eliminating inefficiency since saddlepalooza... Started learning how to position my tether while hanging. It's a lot going on up there, but another level of safety is good. that's what off season is for tight?

Dutchwear has daisy chained webbing for $0.60 per foot. The links are weaved not sewn. (Making them stronger) For those who are looking for a solution since Carl isn’t making them at this time.
