Virginia group chat/possible meet up?

Question: Are any of you guys urban archery hunting? How are you finding properties?

I've been a member on Virginia DWR H-Finder for over 3yrs. and not one email. I'm in SW Va. and I assumed there would be some land owner or farmer that needed to take care of some does, or anything for the matter, but no response.

Are properties only available in certains areas?

I’m not, but the answer is door knocking.

Yes urban archery and knocking doors, friends of friends. In theory you can hunt in your own backyard in the city as long as you are safe and above 15ft in most locales. I have a lawn care buddy I'm northern VA that works in a very high end community $4+ mil homes. Because of word of mouth he can hunt almost every home in that neighborhood. The kicker is only HE can hunt, no friends.
Knock on some doors and ask friends. Older ladies hate when their azaleas get eaten...... Hint, hint.

I also signed up for the H finder and never heard anything back. I am sure there are way more hunters than land owners...unless they are advertising to farm owners through some sort of ag network too

I hunt in the NOVA parks program. I was out doing some scouting one afternoon and a guy approached me and asked if I would also like to come hunt his property. He’s in a community with 5 and 10 acre parcels and the residents in that area mostly want the deer population thinned. Problematic for their pets and gardens and driving through their community roads.

Some times you just gotta be in the right place at the right time. Iv often considered door knocking, but haven’t yet.

Once again nothing to address the outlaw dog hunters so I have no interest.

Anyone have any strong feelings about some of the proposed changes outlined here? In most of these changes, I don't have a dog in the fight but would love to hear from those who do

I looked over these yesterday, and I didn't see anything that I felt like I could comment on. Most of the points made sense to me for my area.

I oppose 4VAC15-90-10 for 100% selfish reasons. I live and hunt in these counties and don't want rifle season pressure in September. And yes, I recognize the obvious response that it's better than CWD kicking our butt and crushing the whitetail population long term.

In general I don’t like the increase in days available for gun season. The orange army(talking general populace here, the folks who don’t train/familiarize themselves and are a danger to themselves and everyone around them) terrifies me. Having said that I understand the idea behind it so I can see both sides of the coin.

What do yall think about 4VAC15-90-1776?

"This proposal is to add infinite, Virginia-wide, either sex tags for deer caught grazing a private land owner's personal garden during the months of June through October."
That's been a law since long ago :)

I grew up in the county. When I was younger, if you seen a groundhog messing around someone's garden you were sure to hear gun fire within a few days. Everyone would just turn their def ear on and go about their day.

I think ima plant me a garden asap. You’ve seen my neighborhood tho, think the neighbors would object?
Seriously tho I think there’s potential for abuse there.

Those that are going to abuse are already abusing and not going to worry about a law change. Really didn't see anything that effects me directly.
VA will never get rid of dog running. I wish they would though. The day they outlaw dog running is the day they outlaw all hunting.

Question for the Gloucester area folks. The wife and I are usually in Gloucester once or twice a year to fish the Ware and North river.

We find these airbnb(s) that have a private doc and fish off of that.

So my question is are there any charter services for these, or any of the other major river systems in the area?

I know we can rent a boat ourselves, but that seems a bit risky to me since I don't know the river systems, what debris could be floating or how the water level changes.

Any info or suggestions would be great. Thanks.
