WE Step Rope Mod

That is very similar to how the primal steps come from the factory. Looks like your version is slightly less bulky than the primal buckle. If it works for you that's great. I think most people don't like metal buckles.

Nice work.

The buckles and hook might get annoying when it comes to stacking several steps together. If they clank on the steps.

Just thinking outloud... what if you sew the hook to the cam buckle and then hook to the step? Probably not as secure as this way...

Noise is easy to fix. Bicycle inner tube over the cam solves that. Plus, I am not being careful here. Honestly though, we get way too caught up with noise. I wish I had so many deer around me when I was climbing that I risked scaring them away with noise :)

As for stacking them. I just tested it. Way easier than the ropes. Here is the thing. Instead of having all the ropes dangling when you climb, each of these would be stuffed individually in the bag. Put a step in the bag, then place the webbing in the bag. Place the next step in the bag and lay the next webbing on the last one. Because it is not bulky it seems to lay in there real nice. The webbing from the previous step in the bag provides a nice soft landing for any metal..... no noise.

Luis, you know I am quite proficient with tying steps. I can probably do it as fast as anyone out there. But I may have stumbled onto something here. It is so fast to set. I timed it at 9 to 10 seconds from the moment I go to wrap the strap around the tree. I am 15 seconds with the rope if I can do it on the first try with a minor adjustment. I usually plan on 20 to 30 seconds. The webbing also has no stretch. The rope is awesome but I am realizing now that it has some give, both in the weave and movement in the knot. When the step is cammed over with the webbing it is even more locked in than the rope. This is slick enough where I need to buy four more cams and really try to use it.

I can tell you this much. It will make setting up my WE Step platforms a breeze.

That looks pretty nice. Are you sewing the webbing on yourself?

Could also weld the hook on. That would make it significantly better IMO if they will still stack nicely.

I have been screwing around with another climbing project and along the way I thought of this.............

Wow, That really reduces the fiddle factor associated with the ropes. I genereally try to avoid metal buckles but I may to try this. Thanks Peter!

Strapworks has the hooks vinyl coated. I would think this would really help to set your Perch. Has anyone tried it yet?

You think a speedy stitcher would suffice for this project?
