Well I drank the one stick kool aid.

And welcome to the one stick method…….I’m guessing you haven’t tried the 2TC yet? I’m trying to learn SRT, but looking at 2 TC too……..I swear it never ends
Thank you lol. I actually really think the single stick may be golden. Just simplified my set up and carry weight.

It works well in straight trees that aren’t to big and that don’t have rough bark. If you look at the trees people choose to make one sticking videos in that will give you a good idea.

1stick up this bendy fork tree no problem. Just believe you can, the issue is our mind telling us we need to find the best tree. Used an 18" cut down Hawk Helium.

I would consider that a relatively straight tree compared to some that I need to get in. I also hunt a lot of pecan and hack berry trees which have really uncomfortable bark for one sticking. I basically went out of my way to try it in worse case scenario trees and found it wasn’t the best choice for me because I don’t want to be limited in tree selection.

2TC and a ROS is simple, cost efficient, less weight and bulk. It is the new koolaid.

One Sticking is still great too though.

Not a minimalist by any means, but still trying to find a new way to climb. I have the one stick method pretty much down pat and am 100% positive I’ll rappel down no matter how I climb. Now what I don’t know is what my favorite way to climb up is……too many ways besides one sticking that I haven’t learned yet.

I’m just looking at speed and weight. With little effort. Besides the long hikes

@Lowg08 you cant go wrong with one stick method. Im stuck on this method. I would suggest that your stick be at least 12 inches. I keep mine tied to my back pack with 2 niteize gear ties and that works just fine. when it comes to a platform or a stick and platform combo there's no right or wrong. pretty much everything is your preference . As for me I keep everything as simple as i can. No madrock or ropeman for me. I use friction hitches and a hitch tender. for linemans rope and tetther adjustments. I use a figure 8 for repel, The hitch I use is a distel hitch on my linemans rope and tether. Im also thinking of adding a ROS to my set up this year. I use a stick and platform combo that I made myself. it works just fine for me. my best advice is play around with stuff and find what works best for you. most of my gear is DIY or modified repurposed gear that I already had. Which again works for me. I dont need the latest and greatest gear. I just need something functional . I will say this, when it comes to a separate platform i dont like it. I feel like it makes me stick out from the tree more. thats why im thinking about a ROS system. Since we are using a tree as a BLOCKER most of the time it makes since to keep your body as close to the tree as possible.

I use a JX3 for long hunts and a Recon for short hunts… can’t see spending too much on a platform… Bullmans new platform steps look interesting.

The first couple of sessions can be rough, but by session 5 you will have your process down and it will be easy. As a “power worker” trust in equipment shouldn’t be a problem and that is the #1 key to one sticking, otherwise people are straining and fighting gravity 100% of the time and they sweat their asses off. Only time you should be really exerting yourself is when you are climbing your aider (3 step, 15” spacing, you will thank me later). Rest of the time you should be relaxing in your saddle with minimal energy expended to move your stick. Good Luck!
