What causes the Lone Wolf hand climber to fail as a saddle climbing platform?

Has anyone ever noticed if the failures are linked to the casting change? I'm ~200# when climbing and haven't had a failure. My LWHC is an older casting and I never saw a need to bolt mod it.

OT...but I think there's a method to get the benefits of the bolt mod without drilling additional holes in it. In case you ever change your mind. It would make me nervous to drill holes near a stressed location in a cast aluminum product. It can do all sorts of non-intuitive things, like act like a little lever arm.
