What do You Recommend,? Chiggers and Ticks

Just make sure you dont get the permethrin on your skin. Its great stuff but its potent. Supposed to go through several wash cycles and still be effective.
Oh thank you sir, you can tell what my brain was already thinking, I didn't know that so thank you. I will see if I can find some of that stuff for sale and make my own, that is good to know, Thank you so much sir.

I treat all hunting & work apparel once a month with the home solution of 36% Martins permethrin mixed to a .5% solution. It works as good as the Sawyer mix and it's way cheaper. Once dry the petroleum distalat odor is very weak and is undetectable with a few squirts of your anti odor spray of choice and a little ozone. Ain't no bugs on me...knock on some wood.
Awesome information, Thank you so much. I will try that. That is what I am looking for is aint no bugs on me hehehe.
Thanks again my friend and have a blessed weekend.

another vote for permethrin. works great... I buy mine at tractor supply... 10% then dilute it down to being twice as strong as sawyers.. not one tick in the last 4 years of using it, and I go into some tic infested areas...

here's a video of what happens to ticks that are exposed to permethrin treated cloting.

Ryno skin and permethrin for me.

Martin's Permethrin 10%, 1 pint https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002TMB4DE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_m7YHBbQHJ5DKQ

I buy the small container because I lose stuff easily. That reminds me, I have something to do tomorrow now.

Not sure what happened to my reply, I am still learning this site,
Thank you sir for taking the time to share the video, enough said with this many votes for it, I believe that will solve my problems. I wonder if it kills chiggers just the same as well.
Thanks again my friend and I hope you have a blessed holiday weekend.

I’m pretty sure you’ve already got your answer, but I’ll add a millionth voter for permethrin.

I have used it religiously since getting 300+ chiggers at once a few years ago. I had to have several steroid shots to get over it...

Not a chigger or tick since. And, very few mosquitos.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer sir. I know from my wife growing up in east texas, y'all see chigger x by the gallon down there. So if it is working on the chiggers for you, It will defiantly be what I need here. Thank you again and it does help. I have it in my cart and I will be placing my order in the morning. Thank you again and have a blessed and happy holiday weekend my friend.

PS good luck on your upcoming season, I think we basically have the same dates for bow season as you do.

So did you decide to try pantyhose one day to see if they would work or were you wearing your wife's pantyhose one day and realized they worked? There's a distinct difference there. :)

Haha well ya see what had happened was.... If I remember correctly my wife caught me wearing them so I had to come up with an excuse and “chiggers” was what popped in my mind! Close call but she bought it hahaha

Trust me as bad as these are here, I am defiantly not afraid to try that, thank you so much for the tip. I have often heard of guys wearing them to help stay warmer like a base layer in the colder months as well. I haven't tried it but it could well be two fold for them. Thanks again my friend for the tip and I hope you have a blessed week.
Dale.
In my experience they weren’t too warm for turkey season, so they may be a good early season option for not getting too warm. Glad I could help

So the public hunting land that is close to home I have picked out for short day trips and even some after work hunts is badly infested with chiggers and ticks. I took my wife camping there almost two years ago. I took her hiking for photography. We walked up on some does and fawns. One of the fawns we actually thought was blind in one eye from who knows what. When we pulled the images up on the computer, you could actually see the little fawn had some many ticks on its eye it was swollen shut. This was a single night camp over, unfortunately the showers were locked out, so we didn't get to shower that night and by the time we woke up both of us had no less than 50 some odd ticks. You would think I would remember such an even like that but no, I am goofy. Monday after work I went and pre-scouted a couple of quick areas, not wanting to have the same tick incident as last time, I did use a little bit of off, Obviously not enough. This morning I am itching so bad, i think it is worse than poison ivey. I have tons of chigger bites on my legs, the wife has pulled probably 8-10 ticks off me, the tiny tiny ones you can barely see with 47 year old eyes,.
This is my issue, the Public area is bow hunting only, every year a few decent deer are taken and seen from this area, but how does a guy hunt this with any kind of peace of mind of not spraying deep woods off on their hunting clothes and being busted by the deer before I even get out of the jeep.
I have never hunted an area this bad, so I am at a loss.
Thanks for any help guys,
(Yes I know I am scouting too late, I am looking for confirmation and not actually going through the areas I intend to hunt. more or less, long distant scouts.)

I use sawyers permethrin on clothes and gear. If you need stuff for your skin the sawyers picardin works great too. There is a slight odor with both but they dry with no odor.

For you guys making your own dilute from concentrate how much water are you adding to the 10% to get .5-1%.

Count me as one million and one votes for permethrin.
I wore treated clothes in the S Ohio woods for 6 hours yesterday. Zero ticks.
I mix my own. Concentrate is much cheaper and can be mixed to different strengths for different needs (I treat my cedar trim for borer bees with it...just mix it stronger).
The pre mixed stuff from Sawyer is more expensive and works well but the spray bottle it comes in is pure garbage...the thing barely puts out any liquid. Takes forever to treat a set of clothes. I've seen several of the Sawyer product act the same way.

Sawyers is a .5% solution from what I see on the label.

Well this is what I found on the label of what I bought for a .5% or .1% solution.

I typically run a 0.8%-1.2% concentration on all of my clothes and gear. Clothes get the 0.8, gear gets the 1.2.
The original military concentrations were a 0.5% spray, and a 40% imulsion prescribed to be mixed in a 2 gallon sprayer. That would put the 2 gal sprayer at a 0.79699% dilution. So, I figure my 0.8% typical mix is right on the money.

West to TSC and bought some 10%, but all they had was Gordon's brand which is 81% petroleum distillates. Is that going to be a problem? Anyone else used this brand?
