Couldn’t find him. We got some rain overnight so no blood to track this morning and the grid search turned up nothing. Hard to believe...

Argh. I get it. EVERY hunter does. I looked 9 hours for a deer that I KNEW was dead. And never found him. Just move forward. Hang in there.

need more details....looks like aerated blood (lungs) to me. if 2 lungs haes done pretty quick, if 1 give him time. also, a throat hit can cough up aerated blood.
The best buck I have shot at to date hit his esophagus. He coughed up aerated blood and a lot of it. None of it was ten yards from where he was when I shot. Found piles of aerated blood like that. I have no doubt the deer died but not that day.
 
In Virginia there is a free service dog tracking service on Facebook, may look into something similar in your area.
