What knot do you use to tie to your D loop?

I have a short piece of 9mm rope I was thinking of making a lineman's rope with (around 10' total length) which does not have an eye on either end. I know the figure 8 follow through is pretty standard to tie one to a D-loop, but I'm curious what others may be using. I was wondering if there was any downside to using a scaffold knot, other than it tightening up and being hard to untie if you ever need to?
