Been playing around with a pair of spurs I picked up off here. There’s a long way to go, but I think I’m going to need a thicker/stiffer rope to “flip” as I go up. Am I doing it wrong, or is there a preferred line you spur guys use/recommend?

A lot of guys use a Tree Squeeze with spurs. It will arrest a fall quicker than a lineman’s belt.

Loce the tree squeeze, but a linemans belt will onky stop your fall if you use it correcly and keep all your weight away from the tree if you happen too slip off a step or gaff out. I went through a pole climbing class in college and watched plenty of guys gaff out of a pole and try and hug it and burnt the pole all the way down.

I’ve been looking at snagging a tree squeeze, even if just to practice. May pick up some 12mm line while I’m at it!

The adjustable friction saver on THIS PAGE make for an effective tree squeeze at about half the cost....or make your own. It's not going to have the stiffness of the actual squeeze though.
