Not once have I ever thought about taking a book to the woods whether it was a scouting trip or hunting. Too much to see and learn to be messin with a book.

I get antsy sometimes. A book helps keep me from fidgeting. If it's a book I've read several times before I'm less likely to get too engrossed. Either way, at chapter breaks I do a slow, 360' bino scan. Estimate ranges to different features and check my estimates with my rangefinder. Read and estimate the wind - do I need to adjust my position?. Take a sip of water. Is everything as it should be? Where are the squirrels and birds? Then go back to reading.

Kidding, no idea why that came to mind reading this thread. Currently reading The Unsettling of America by Wendell Berry.

Through pure kindness by a well known member on here, I was sent a copy of Dr. A. Robert Sheppard’s Book, “ Whitetails, A Research Based Hunting Model” Even when you think you know everything you learn something new. This is a highly recommended read and has changed my approach to scouting especially. I have also picked up a copy of Michael Perry’s book, “Secrets to taking Mature Bucks on Public Land.” Have not started that one yet.

I have read Michael Perrys book and was disappointed in it considering how much of a big buck slayer he is.....Finished the book and didn't feel like I learned anything....

I have read Michael Perrys book and was disappointed in it considering how much of a big buck slayer he is.....Finished the book and didn't feel like I learned anything....

I picked it up twice now and so far, I’m not gleaning much from it either but I’ve been super busy and the minute I start reading it I’m dozing off…. Not the book’s fault per se but some are certainly harder to put down than others.

I used to enjoy to reading but, nowadays sadly I just do not enjoy reading things as much as I used to. The internet has just made it too easy for educating oneself on almost anything.

I do think people should try to read a bit at least a few times a week. I plan on starting again myself

Michael Perry’s book for the second time. This time I’m taking notes.

About half way through 'The Old Man and the Tree: A different Approach to Deer Hunting' by Barry Wensel. This has been one of my favorite books on deer hunting so far.

I usually try to read one or two a year from different authors to gain different perspectives.

The other one I read this year is 'Whitetail Savvy' by Dr. Rue III. This one is a really good read on year round whitetail behavior.
