Ive hunted rifle and shotgun season before but early muzzleloader opens up friday here n i have never even shot one. I havent hunted firearms in 6 or 7 years at least. Would like to keep my budget under 500 if possible. Any suggestions??

I picked up a total package from CVA with the Scout, Scope, and case. It made it super easy for a muzzleloader beginner. Think it was under $300 all day. Ammo stuff was more but you know how that goes.

TC Hawken .50cal 1in48 twist barrel. She’s old school but I love the smell of real BP. 80 grains of FFFg Goex with a .490 patched round ball. It’s my favorite two weeks of the year here in AR.

You can find them on the used market for around $500.

Anything from Thompson Center. Had a real nice one I can’t remember the model now. Ended up selling it but wished I didn’t. But then my father in law traded me his TC Black Diamond. It’s an oldie but a goody. Very accurate and pretty easy to work on even comparing to the newer modern models.

CVA Optima 50 cal.
Although I don't know why I bother. I haven't seen a deer in the daylight in 4 years during blackpowder season here in northern lower MI. State land. they are completely nocturnal by the time blackpowder season is on deck.

Same in NW Ohio.

Traditions Pursuit Ultralight. Kicks like a mule but I’ve knocked down quite a few northern MI deer... in the daylight.

CVA Electra...cloverleaf groups at 100 yards and a ridiculously light trigger.

I've been very happy with my Knight muzzleloader (not sure about model--maybe the Wolverine?). Shoots great, easy to take down and clean, and very reliable.

TC Impact in .50cal., great shooter, easy to clean, like $350 if my memory serves me correctly. I topped it with a $250 Leupold 2x7 as I typically use my bow hunting areas for ML during the late season and it is plenty of power.

If you want old school, I ve shot competition for years w/ a pedersoli .50 A very good prize winner. .490 rd ball, .010 butter patch over 60 grns FFF I think Cabelas sells it in cap or flint, called a blue ridge rifle.
