What's your favorite saddle hunting firearm for whitetails?

Although I've not had a chance to use mine yet, my firearm of choice is going to be my new Remington 700 .308. My first ever 308. She shoots so smooth and darn accurate.
 
I've used a few this year. My favorite is a Remington 7600 carbine in 30-06. Hornady 165 sst. Pigs head shots, deer, elk last year dressed 398# shoulder shot ten steps this year 248# shoulder shot twelve steps, incredible knock down. Ammo for 06 available every where.

In Massachusetts we can only use shotgun or muzzleloader. I have an Encore rifle with a muzzleloader barrel and a Thompson Center 2-7 lit reticle scope. I love this gun and prefer it over a shotgun. I haven't used a shotgun for deer in 20 years. If I'm not using my bow then it's the Encore.
 
Started at 14 with a Remington 30-06,,Went rem 700,,winchester 94,,,marlin cal 444,,now back to rem 7400 30-06-----One big circle!
 
I’ve been using my .308 from my saddle due to my setups over fields, however my favorite gun is the Marlin 336 in 30-30 no matter what I’m hunting from.

I have an old 300 savage that I bought when I was very young. It sit's in my gun cabinet and haven't used it in years . I just love bow hunting. The gun will stay there and it will be my son's but he's also a bow hunter.

...."An old 300 Savage", as in Model '99? I love those old rifles. IMHO an 1899 Savage is the best lever action rifle ever made. I've been fortunate enough to gather up a few of them over the years. I carried one in .308 for quite a few years. Those 180 gr. GameKing handloads laid em down. It sounds like your Son has an heirloom waiting for him. If you are talking a different model, I digress....

Bought it for a 100 bucks with a scope 3 boxes of shells and a case. It has a rotary magazine it has a number counter on the side. I bought it off of my dad's best friend when I was young.
 
im shooting a sako 75 .308 varmint. big target barrel fluted so its a little on the heavy side.
what i like to take when im going on long treks is my wifes browning 7mm-08 micro hunter. its 2" shorter in the stock and 3" in the barrel. its like slinging around the ol' .22 through the woods

Another vote for the 300 Blackout in an AR pistol platform here. 10.5" barrel, compressing stock. Packs nice and easy to maneuver in the tree. I just won it in a raffle so I have not shot anything with it yet but from my online research the 110 or 120 Barnes are the ticket. Hope to find out in the next 2 weeks as today is my last work day for the next 2.
 
I have a 300 blackout in AR platform. How does that round do in heavy brush? That's the only reason I haven't used it in a tree. It's a fast round but I think it would tumble if it hit any type of brush. That's why I bought a 45-70 and plan on shooting HSM 405gr round
 
The bullet shouldn't hit anything on the way to the target regardless of the caliber. Even large bullets are easily damaged and deflected when they hit something. Bigger calibers tend to leave good trails though and are often chambered in the types of rifles that are handy in the woods. Both good reasons IMO to choose one for woods hunting.
 
I ran into this video a couple weeks ago. I watched both part 1 and 2. Very interesting.

 
As a conscientious hunter, intentionally shooting through brush is an irresponsible practice on so many levels.
