I tried the thigh loop several times in the past week. I ended up making a fleece loop that was very comfortable. While it does put pressure on your non footloop leg to stabilize you and hold you closer to the tree while moving the footloop tether up, I have found the same can be accomplished by simply putting your foot against the tree. I did not find that it made climbing easier. You’re essentially holding all of your weight on one side of your body (right or left thigh). It takes some time to get use to and I didn’t love it. It works but it isn’t enough of a benefit to get me to change what I’m currently doing.

The tendency is always to add more junk to your system. 2TC shines to me when it has little to no metal, little to no bulk, and little to no extra pieces. 2 tethers, 3 prussics, one footloop. I love being able to throw everything into my bag quickly and it’s ready to rock the next time I need it. I enjoy trying new stuff but I keep coming back to the simplicity of two tethers and a footloop.

I’m anxiously waiting for the next breakthrough in 2TC technology though!

Can you explain the three prussics? I'm only imagining two...

I've heard of others using "tether handles" so that you don't put your fingers underneath the ropes. Does anyone have pics of what they are using that you would be willing to share?

Is there an advantage to feeding the tether through a bight instead of an eye or quick link like we usually see?

I really think (for me) what @Samcirrus and then @Brocky have going with tether stiffeners is the breakthrough I need. I was thinking of a reinforced CGM webbing tether, but those stiffened rope tethers Brocky has got me. Rope being round means no edges to catch while advancing. Don’t think I have the time to learn how to make/make them. But, imo, it’s the move in 2TC.

I got a friend that bought one from him. I might need to link up with him soon and give it a try.

Can be as simple as two heavy duty zip ties, just left as loops/not zipped all the way shut. I used these for a while until I lost them packing up and not paying attention. Have also used two carabiners and am experimenting with two amsteel loops (because I have extra laying around). It doesn't need to be anything too fancy, just needs to slide over the rope decently but not interfere with cinching the rope down to the tree, ideally be inflexible enough that they don't get pulled through the eye of the rope (zip ties worked great for this for me). The amsteel loops don't do this great but are good enough until I get some thick zipties again.

Okay okay, I need to make some for some of y'all so you can tell the difference. Spring steel is hands downs better! I was gonna make a video but NOW we get all this snow.....in a week or so....But it'll be awesome with my 2Tc/SRT rope walking kit!

I did try it. I put 3/16" amsteel in one end of some 5/16 resc tech. Was fatter and stiffer but ended up limp.
Also, Brocky was right and the hitch needs tending when moving from a fattened portion to a normal rope portion, but not with the steel wire, no adjustment to my LHA necessary.
What rope and amsteel combination did @Brocky use to get his rope stiff, the rope that held itself up?
