Why use a stick when you one stick?

I just recently started climbing one stick. I made a few climbs with a helium and 2 step aider using the daisy chain method and it was ok but not great. I then tried a 3 step aider just tied to the bottom of my ridge runner platform and it was awesome. No more carrying a stick and a platform for me. Just wondering why I don’t see more people climbing with full size platforms? Show me some setups if you’re climbing this way.

The one thing I can't see to get past is not having a consistent hand hold. I'm currently running a 20" stick with a 2 step web aider. I guess I like the security of reaching up to grab top steps when I'm in the aider.

Am I crazy or do this go away if you go down to a scout solo or a Wild Edge step? Do you just grab the tree?

Edit: ROS guy here, I've used platforms but really like the flexibility & packability of the Ol ROS

I had a thread climbing with a Treehopper treesuit with a three step aider. Piece of cake.

I hunt with the scout now so thats why it’s on a stick. I prefer the clearance DanO brackets give. It turns out to be a three step aider plus another 16” to the top so I get good distance on each move.

The guy that inventing one sticking also invented climbing with just your stand. Like everything it depends on what you like.

I don’t think larger platforms may be problematic where you can’t climb up and over or around them so they have to be raise up while climbing with them. I didn’t have this issue with the treesuit as I would expect you wouldn’t have any problem with the ridge runner or smaller platform of these sizes either

When I’m climbing I grab the tree, or kinda pull myself up with my tether rope.

I enjoy climbing using my mission platform with a amsteel two step aider. I experience less sway with my aider on a platform then on a stick. I made a soft shackle type of connect to hold platform partially open so I don't have to completely open and close it on each move. I find using the platform for hand holds then the tether for the final step works well. I prefer how the platform holds the aider farther away from the trunk. This enables you to find and slide your foot in to place alot smoother.

I do both (1-stick with a mini stick or with just a platform). For ease of attachment when you are suspended solely by your saddle, you can’t beat a cam cleat. Haven’t seen a platform with a cam cleat YET, so I prefer to use my 1-stick with cam cleat when I feel like it.

I use the platform with a 3 step aider. Just added a cleat, but haven't really tested it.

I plan on jumping into the platform only bandwagon this off-season. It seems very doable with the mission and a 3 step aider. If it works and I like it I I'll keep my DanO stick for hanging cameras I guess.

How about one layer deeper and try climbing with hang-on stand? Rapel down.

Anyone tried this? I still love the flexibility and comfort of my Assault, just dislike packing sticks with it.

I feel like it would be too hard to maneuver unless you had a real tiny stand.

Definitely possible if you have a LWCG .5. @elk yinzer wanna give it a try?
