I ordered the bullman’s today. Im looking forward to trying them out. I will be using them on a ratchet strap and tightening the heck out of them as suggested in the video that was posted.

I tried strap on ameri steps but struggled with foot fatigue. (I am a leaner) Got a platform and haven't looked back. It is a bit more of a pain to pack but the comfort is much better. I also think it is less movement at the time for a shot. I also have found it easier to get set up in a really thick tree where you are wedging in between branches so to speak. Had one sit last year where the only tree to set up in was a rough old bull pine. Spent the evening standing sideways on my platform due to all the limbs in my way. Saw 9 deer that night but none I wanted to shoot. Would have been tough to set up there with steps.
But this is just my personal preference.

Funny you mentioned that later scenario. I presented the same one today to a few well known saddle hunters while discussing single platform design. There are a lot of spots I hunt that don't work for a treestand and don't work for a ring of steps. They require that tiny little platform wedged in that little spot similar to your case. A lot of bedding areas don't have premium trees in the right spots. The saddle makes everything a possibility in the less than desireable trees but some platforms work better than others as far as actual hunting. The above is where the tiny single platform is king.

I know most of you seem to be using traditional or compound bows based on other posts and I definitely see the benefits of platforms for those. For anyone using an xbow, is there any preference or significant difference between a platform or ring of steps?

I use a x bow from time to time and I personally like my ameristeps . I hold steadier leaning back with the x bow. I did look in to a platform but haven't seen any I really like . Don't get me wrong they look great but the one I really like was the one Lonewolf use to make. Still waiting to see what comes out next.

I shoot a crossbow. I used wild edge Stepps for my platform the last half of the season and a xop seat platform the first half. They are the same as far as shooting goes. Just need to make sure you swing out far enough from the tree. Sounds obvious but since you are shooting around/behind the tree with a horizontal bow you need to make sure your bow has enough room that the limbs don’t bang the tree when you pull the trigger.

Yes. This was a spot just as you describe. Thick bedding. There was no other good option for a tree except a triple trunked little pine. Took me a while to get set up but once there I was in the right spot. But there was no way steps were working.

That said steps do pack nicer as you can just throw them in your pack.

Why do you guys use platforms. Doesn’t that take away from being able to swing around the tree?

If you hunt areas where screw in steps are allowed....try cranford EZY T Tree steps....I’ve been using them for years...I carry 5, one for my pack and four for my “ring”. Make sure the soles on your hunting boots are rick solid or you will not njoy using them.

I couldn't agree wiyh you more. You definitely have to be aware of the limbs and were the tree is.

You guys are probably sick of me posting this but here it goes....

View attachment 4172 View attachment 4173

I have been beating the crap out of them for a few weeks and they are holding up great. I have another fifteen of them stuck in customs right now because the seller mis-coded them as stents, a medical device, which would require a bunch of hurdles to be cleared before they release them. I told them they can open the box and look if they like. Hopefully they are here soon. I find them very comfortable and they are very light. I will have four sets set up as permanents, one set will be used for mobile. I may buy more.

What are these steps??

This is my experience as well and the reason I sold my XOP seat platforms. My tiny assault seat platform fits everywhere I need it.
