Wild Edge Perch first impression

I own the Stepps and love them, and have no issues with their waiver or creative ways the Stepps have been leveraged in just the past year. We take more risk driving to work every day, but we still do it. I think we are getting closer to an accident from sheer stupidity / laziness - and it will be how awful saddle hunting is because we do things differently from the mainstream. WE is posting videos about all the people they see putting the Perch on wrong - not following directions or doing more research and firing off on FB. It's been kind of a frustration to watch some of the flood of new people come in to this style of hunting but not put the full rigor into researching and learning about what they are doing, and questions about "is it safe" will actually become more legit. The FB posts I can't even stand anymore, at least here the community will point out issues and concerns in a manner that is constructive and protective of it's members and there is no shortage of threads that answer damn near every question a new person would ever have, but we live in a world of instant gratification. I have no idea how some of our highly accomplished members here find the time or have the patience to answer the same questions on FB every day. I'd throw my phone out first LOL. As has been said here hundreds of times - anytime you go up into a tree with a weapon you are creating risk, so folks have to get really comfortable and confident in their process to mitigate that risk.
I'm contemplating a Perch after initially being uninterested - threads like this are helpful with people's honest reviews, experiences and videos so I don't think it's gone sideways - just a good dialogue. And the growth of the SH family gives everyone more access to people who do this - it wasn't long ago where the nearest Saddle Hunter was in another state. I know before I think about pulling the trigger, I'll drive up to see @Bwhana like he came to my house when contemplating saddles. When I first started I had to read every thread to learn - but man I was glad I did.

I have a perch, when I first tried to attach it I had the it wont fit problem. I never realized my step standoffs were bent. I can not tell of any loss of stability. The gap is only a little bit smaller than what they started at. I have 2 steps that the perch fit right on, and will just make sure one of those is the one I use for the perch. I am and have been nothing but satisfied with the WildEdge. I am not a small guy and those are rock solid when you get the tension right on the rope before camming it over. If anyone around me wants to give them a try before making the purchase just let me know.

I think its worth mentioning there are knock offs around.
I think WE has been more main stream in the last year or so with the Knaider/ Swaider G2 video, quite possibly more than ever before. So if there will be a failure I would expect we aren't far from it.
I also want to mention I use Stepps with a 5 step aider and like them very much, so I'm not a hater. lol
Same. Not a hater here as well.

Otherwise, I would have sold them.

Hey guys while I was on vacation my Wild Edge Perch got delivered, I couldn't wait to get home and try it out... here is a link to my video of the unboxing, first impression and trying it out on a tree. Really like it, will have to do a side by side comparison with the Predator platform soon.

I have been testing the best way to install and get the step tight as possible on different trees. Here is the absolute best way and in working great for me.
1. Install the step as normal with not as much tension ,just enough to cam over and stay in place. (this also will prevent the step from squeezing the step together making the perch harder to install)
2. Install the Perch, uncam it then tighten the rope more than normal ( I turn my step strait up so I can get it closer to tree and tighten rope. you would never be able to cam the step by hand but you can use the Perch as leverage to cam ) Works everytime

The predator plateform is quick and easy, look at it this way fellas, if you have to tweek it out and have conversations in great length about how to get the WE platform to cam down you know they will be coming out with phase 2 or even phase 3 model in the future. I like the old phrase "keep it simple" it's not perfected yet, although I believe they will come out with something better in the future. The last thing you want to be doing is testing something during the hunting season. I like to make my changes now during the off season, put those changes thru the paces well before hunting season evaluate them and decide what's going into my tactical approach before season starts. I believe the predator has several advantages
#1 packability
#2 its quite
#3 its stable
#4 lite weight
#5 Dependable every time
Hope this adds to the conversation, and hope this helps you spend your hard earned money wisely

if you climb with steps and can get the perch to work for you it will be a great system. As far as steps bending I have bent one but it was one I welded onto to add a camera arm. Other than that I haven’t bent any with a couple seasons of climbing with them.

Do you have the original Predator platform or the 2.0?
Only ask, is when I was looking into and waiting on my platform to arrive. I followed the posts here on the issue with the Predator platform. If I remember correctly, it was a cracked frame. Due to how it was being fastened to the tree. Like you would a lock-on stand, and seeing the post/ vedios about how to properly secure the platform to the tree. To help the issue think Tethrd also did a slight modification to the platform to help prevent the issue. I hope both companies continue to look for ways to better their products.

Yes, the off season is the best time to test out news things and get ready for the season. Look forward to testing the Perch over the summer and comparing it to the Predator.

I have the original Predator and the issue with the frame is blown out of proportion IMHO. It’s not pervasive. Mine even came with a curve in the casting. I love the weight and simplicity and speed of set up. All these things are great options and the market keeps coming. It’s crazy because it’s been only a year since we had legit options besides the Stepps alone or ROS of some DIY contraption.

Definitely blown out, but OK. We were forced to make it bomb proof otherwise guys would try to break it. If you want to save some ounces buy the gen 1. Thats why the community exists. The saddlehunter.com community is the toughest critic. We take your comments and make changes accordingly. This will never change. Tethrd will always be by saddle hunters in consideration of the community.

So I just had a real good idea for the 11 wild edge steps I have in my collection.....what if I preset my srt setups and include a step at height so when I get there just climb to height set the perch in and hunt.....I know maybe tighten the rope a little first but less weight going in....brainstorm!

Short of a squirrel gnawing on the rope, this sounds like a great idea!
