Wild Edge step rope replacement

I have to replace the ropes on my Wild edge steps. The ropes came the other day and I think I understand the installation instructions. I was wondering if anyone uses a brummel hitch/knot like you use with Amsteel before the bury. The instructions appear to show the rope going through only once before the bury. Could this be why I have read online where people have complained of slippage?
