Wild Plum?

Those are definitely wild plumbs. They are all over the area of national forest I hunt around Hot Springs. They dont ever seem to get real sweet always stay tart, but they make a great jelly.

I have never seen any in NC but that doesn't mean they are not here somewhere!!! Wish I could find some my best hunting spot ever was a lone persimmon tree I accidentally stumbled across!

Plums, 1000% not persimmon.

Where are you located? Deer will eat the fruit but so does everything else. Raccoons will likely have a single tree like that stripped in no time the second they’re ripe.

Hey fellas, there is an app called picture this that I use for work as well as in the woods to identify plants. I think you get to submit 10 pictures for free and then it's maybe $10 a year after that. So far I've found it very easy to use and extremely accurate. Y'all might want to check it out.

Northeast Arkansas. Lots of raccoons. A few are dropping already, it'll be interesting to see if it's been hit next time I'm out there.

My plums have a great crop every other year. I have them lining my garden because their "spurs'' are very sharp and make a good fence jumping barrier. This is a great year and can hardly wait for season to start because day time activity at those trees is booming. To help keep raccoons at bay I hang ball shaped thistle seed bird feeders stuffed with cotton strips soaked in a mix of coyote urine and mineral oil. Doesn't seem to bother the deer. I don't know why but worth that risk. I just hate raccoons they crap on EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE!

Plums for sure. I grew up with wild plums in my back yard.

The leaves are not persimmon leaves. Also, I've never seen a persimmon tree that small which produced that amount of fruit.

A few more plant ID apps, all free I believe:

iNaturalist
PlantSnap
LeafSnap
VTree

So I went back to hunt this spot yesterday evening and low and behold there was a rice bran pile and ladder stand about 50 yards away that I didn't see before.

Persimmons from a hunt earlier this week. There was another, smaller, tree that was dropping.
