XOP X2 aider?

Aider or no aider that sucks. Really it looks like it happened because the profile around the bolt is just too narrow. Looking at this it seems like they shouldn’t have V-notched the bolt hole. Maybe the material still has physical flaws but there’d be a lot more of it to resist snapping if they didn’t narrow it around that hole. Solid material against the tube there would only hurt aesthetics, add minuscule weight, and not alter function at all.
I agree! The material above the mounting bolt should have been left alone. The machined V above the bolt causes a weak point no doubt.

I’m not messing with you. Real question….. Do you attach aiders on your top step?
Yes, it's called a carry as you go aider. CAYG. Several styles. Its easyer to attach to the stick comming down hooking on to the top step.

I’ve heard of that but didn’t realize that was attached or hooked on the top step. Always something new to learn. Everyone has their own way and ideas. Great place to learn.
Thanks for the pics and warning. I’ll definitely keep an eye on my sticks.

Looks like top step so not an aider issue. Aider would be bottom step.
I think the point is that the step is weak and unreliable, therefor unsuited for attaching an aider. Regardless of which end of the stick the step is mounted on. Not that the aider caused the failure, that the failure happened and people considering climbing on these things at all, let alone with an aider, should consider their choices very deliberately.

I’ve only used my X2’s a handful of times but I’m 240 lbs and they have so far been awesome and rock solid with no standoff bends or steps breaking. Seeing this post is crazy for me. My bigger fear was that the bolts are literally screwing into the back of the aluminum stand off so dissimilar metals weakening the step or stripping the threads. My fear was never the step it’s self fracturing around the bolt.
