I read an article today from a crappy source I’m sure but the writer recommended putting a dab of peanut butter at the yellow jacket nest hole and that will locate the yellow jackets for the raccoons. I couldn’t believe it haha.

I got smacked by 5 of them yesterday here in WV. Big rash on my leg where they got me and the sting on my ring finger has that half of my hand plus my pinky finger swollen up still. I hate those little things and they're all over this year.

I have noticed that the wasps building under the eves of my house in Virginia seem to some type of yellow jacket. These are bigger than the little F’ers that nest in the ground, but still some type of yellow jacket. I hit a nest with a sprayer that had a good mix of water and dawn dishwashing liquid in it and they were dead within 5 seconds of hitting the ground. I think it blocks the spiracles that they breath through and they suffocate….real quick.

They definitely have been tough here in Virginia. I haven't seen any of those huge buggers yet but if I did they'd get the stick. Anything I spot on the porch gets the stick. Can't afford letting any of them sting my wife since she's allergic to some species. My pawpaw was allergic to honey bees too, so gotta keep the baby safe since she might have inherited that. Lot of wood bees around here though. I leave them alone for the most part.

I got stung 7 times in Ashe County a few weeks ago and walked over a huge (softball size) hole and hour later, near miss. They are definitely bad in NC this year.

I must’ve stepped right on a ground nest last weekend and had 20 stings on me…. Luckily I was ok, I don’t care to find out again. It’s made me wish it was winter already….. I’m dreading stepping on something like that in the dark come October.

A non chemical way to get rid of a hive hole in the lawn is to put a clear glass bowl over it after it gets dark. They see the sun but can‘t go anywhere so they don’t try to dig under the bowl edge, eventually die out.

I hadn't noticed them that bad this year in Alabama. They have stolen my truck from me once. Guess I need to explain that story.
Was hauling some logs. Backed my 18ft trailer near the log pile and proceeded to jack it up. Had the stand touching the ground but didn't get it off the ball yet. That's when I realized it was on a nest and got attacked. Ran to get inside the truck and they were hitting the window to get me. I thought they were gonna break through the glass. lol. Couldn't drive forward of reverse because my jack was digging in the ground and I didn't want to break it off. Waited a while for them to settle down so I could get the trailer off the ball. Went back a second time and got hit again. I don't know if my lip swole up from the sting or me punching myself to get them off. It was a chaotic moment. So I just left my truck and came back at night.
And be careful with that talsar. I sprayed my yard with a boom sprayer on an atv on a windy day getting it on myself several times. That night I was curled up on the floor by the toilet like a dead roach. Could have been something I ate, but I think I was poisoned. But I haven't got Covid yet either.....

I have removed 2 ground nests on my property this year and left for vacation, I have two more now when I returned, one in my garden.... it’s a raised bed and they are going in the side. It must be a big nest, two holes to it over 8 feet across and a constant flow all day to both holes.

I have used the big mason jar method before, works great and only takes a few days. I have also used 50:1 gas on some, dump a gal down and light it. Stays lit for 30 minutes or so and I have never had them come back although it has to be in a safe spot to dump gas.

This post brings me back to 2001, 2nd tee. Shanked one with my 5 iron about 20 yards into the woods and went in after it bc I suck ar golf and only had 3 balls. Crunched my foot mid calf deep into a “hole” in the ground and heard a crunch. Took one step forward and was $&@? ENGULFED in a black cloud of pain. We lost count at around 26 but estimated between 26-32 stings.

I got nauseous, turned green. But finished all 18 bc I was a Marine 6 months out of boot camp and wasn’t going out like a Girl Scout.

found out later I could have died.
