What is the max range that you will shoot a deer at instinctively and what is your traditional setup?

I sight with the arrow. I shot squirrels at 30 yards last spring.
My current rig is a Tradtech Galaxy 17” riser and Axiom plus Long limbs in the low 40’s#

Killed a huge doe at 38 but I was on the ground scouting and she was relaxed broadside. Not a distance I care to shoot but it was just perfect. From the tree I hope to get them under 20. Javaman inferno longbow and Javaman Eros recurve 50#@25 with 560gr arrow or something close to that if I remember right.
Short draw length sucks.

I’ve shot a couple squirrels but not that far. They too quick for me. This weekend I shot a trophy squirrel. I was deer hunting but couldn’t pass it up. Big fox squirrel with a black face, white nose and white tipped tail. I wanted him bad! Shot him and he jumped pulling himself off the arrow and sat there. I shot again right under him. He crawled off. Then I see him in the tree feeding an hour later unless it was another one. Had blood on my arrow. Had blood to the tree I seen one that looked just like him in. Never found a dead one around. Guess I grazed him. I might go back with the 17. But it just wouldn’t be the same trophy with a gun.

It all depends on how I'm feeling though I generally won't shoot more than 20 yards at a deer. I practice out to 30 and on those days when I'm feeling it, I'm on it, other days, not so much. It's all about concentration. I'm shooting a Robertson Vision Falcon, 54" 51# @28". It's a real sweet shooter.;)

I max out at 15 to 17 yards on deer. They are too jumpy for me to try to reach out any further. I took a coyote at 23 yards last year. I practice out to 25 yards. I shoot a Bob Sarrels Blueridge SR 54# and 60" long.

Past 25, I have to know the yardage. I missed 2 turkeys opening day that I thought were 30 yards but were more like 35

Recurve/longbow ~ 25 yards
Selfbow ~ 20 yards

Thanks,
Boswell

I string walk and in the right situation would take a 30yd shot. I practice out to 50.

I shoot a tradtech Titan 3 with Dryad rcs Limbs 48lbs@28”.

Deer, instinctively? I practice with my deer targets out to 30 yards. Past that and I find it hard to pick a spot. Fortunate only had to go past 20 yards maybe 4 or 5 times in 30 years. I always try to have my shot opportunities 10 to 20 yards.
matching Black Widow 60" SA Recurves Graybark, and Autum Oak, 55Lb @ 29"
