Sure. In fact, as long as your bury is properly deep you could even use regular thread. The sewn part of the splice isn't for holding things together when it IS under load (though it's reassuring if it's strong), it's for holding things in place when it's NOT under load.

Yeah that’s kinda what I gathered watching the G2 vid on Utube when splicing on a new bridge. But yeah for sure something stronger is definitely more reassuring.
