Scent-Lok, or HECS or neither

One guy argues science the other argues effectiveness. Take “hunting” out of the equation and one products science is clearly more credible than the others.

If you could forget the whole hunting thing for just one minute you would have a much more fruitful discussion.

If you feel using Scent Lok clothing gives you an edge

Ricky my friend,

I guess I don't wear scent lok because of my feelings. That is subjective. I wear scent lok or spray carbon on my clothes because carbon reduces odor. That is objective evidence.
Does it help me kill more deer... I do not have any credible evidence except perhaps the repeated success - which is not scientific - of John Eberhardt.
Why does John kill so many nice deer. There are many variables to hunting but his feeling or opinion is that scent lok has a major effect. That is definitely not why I use scent lok because that is subjective opinion and is based on his experiences. What any hunter feels about any product has minimal influence on my decisions to do anything. I know John uses it because of his experiences and the objective evidence or the science.
I use carbon because carbon reduces odor, and I have to wear clothes deer hunting or a least I should wear clothes.
I spray carbon on packs, non scent lok clothes etc. Based on my unreliable experience and feelings there is less body odor on those things when I do that. I also kill deer and that is why I kill deer... that is a dumb argument so ignore that. That type of statement is unreliable evidence.
Carbon does reduce odor... a scientific fact. That is objective truth.
The cost of scent lok on sale and spray on carbon is minimal and comparable to anything else I might wear. Kuiu clothing is probably, generally more expensive.

That's kind of hard to do since we are talking about the effectiveness of carbon clothes for hunting applications. Controlled experiments in the laboratory mean nothing if it can't be successful applied to tangible proof in the field. Myself, I've never seen any evidence that carbon clothing is effective against a deers nose.
Look, I respect everyone's opinion on this forum and I understand that we will never see eye to eye on everything.
Heck, I'm a Ford man to the core and just bought my wife a new Chevy because it's what she liked. I'm still trying to get over that....:smirk:

HI Ricky
I agree with you that there is no scientific field proof that I will kill more deer. Only our experiences that are not reliable.
I am certain carbon reduces odor. Does it let me kill more deer. That is impossible to be sure of. Based on my unreliable feelings I think it maybe might sort of probably help me kill more deer.
I think we agree on that. That type of thinking is worthless.
I have a Ram truck because I got a good deal. I used to only drive Chevy trucks.

Fellow Ford man here:
I was really into it years ago then as life got in the way, the bad habits started to come back, not just scent control but the effort lacked.
I'm back at it working harder and smarter hunting my butt off.
I like being clean and doing everything possible to control my scent. I love the regiment. It gives me confidence in the woods. I still work the wind to my advantage, but I pay more attention to what I touch, the different soil on my boots and how much I sweat etc.
Now the Hecs suit does interest me. With my crummy luck I must have a huge electrical current around me scaring all wildlife away from me in the woods. So big I bet the Hubble can see it.
Hecs should use me as a test dummy with one of those Trifield Natural EM Meter, I'll probably break it.

I’ve been a Ford man all my life but our recent vehicles woes have me rethinking that lol... the QA on electrical went way down in early 20 teens

My subjective opinion is they all make good trucks. Just personal preferences. Buy North American. Oh well a derailed post All the trucks are assembled in the USA or Mexico and have parts from Canada.
My truck was assembled in good old Michigan. I hope it has some Canadian steel in it. I hope Justin does not slap a tarriff on the next truck I buy.
I really hope they don't close the border to saddle imports. Just fun Red... no politics. I bought the aluminium for my sticks from the USA because it was cheaper but maybe the aluminum came from Quebec and was retailed by Online metals.

Hecs or scentlok all have their place. Both have a science behind them. The body does produce odor and also does put of electricity in a form. I think its each his own here. I mean i wear Sitka gear not because its cool, definitely don’t like the price of everything however there is a science behind thd patterns used. I always play the wind and watch my movements. I practice good scent control but I just feel invisible. Has sitka helped my game.... yes it has!!! Last year i saw at least 3 deer on every sit did not get busted hunted over 70 days!!!

I would like to see the science behind Sitka and Hecs. I have seen the science behind carbon.

Your experiences are pretty amazing you must be doing a lot right or you live on a deer farm. My experiences suck compared to yours. You have to take me deer hunting where you go and I can see what I do wrong or if you hunt in great spots.
I don't claim to be a great hunter but want to learn more and more. I seldom see 3 deer on a sit and sometimes see one or more deer on a sit. Maybe I should be spraying carbon on Sitka and wearing a hec suit underneath.

LOL, my Ford was made in Windsor, Ont....:)
I did not know they still made trucks in Canada. A lot of Honda and Toyota vehicles are made in Ontario. All Dodge mini vans.
I guess I should have bought a Ford and you should have bought a Dodge but now I think Ram is assembled in Mexico. If we get some more tariff's I will have to buy a Ford. I only ever had one Ford truck - it blew up in 1986.

I don’t buy into carbon or ozone for SOUTHERN hunting.

It’s just too hot down here to hide it, and most carbon suits would put you into heat stroke in our early season.
Heck, we had temps at 88° on December 4th last year.....
I’m not wearing anything more than I have to when it’s hot like that.

I think if I had to lived there I would be the same as you. It would be too hot but I think @g2outdoors sweats it out. .

I've done alright without magic suits. It probably helped that some deer are blind, deaf and dumb....
Nice bucks Ricky, Congratulations. I love the camo. That must be why you got those nice bucks.
I guess I have a lot to learn. Never had a buck with a nice rack. I did kill a big buck in 2016... heavy old brute. Nice bucks. I have not hunted for very many years though and I am not expert at all. I still am sure carbon does reduces odor. Does it help me kill deer.... no proof. John Eberhardt could be pointed to as proof that carbon suits work or I could point to Dan Infalt's bucks and say see... carbon suits are useless. Proves nothing. I learn from both those guys.
Or point to me... no big bucks... I cannot prove that the magic suit works. But carbon does reduce odor. Is it enough to make a difference hunting. I have no idea for sure.

This scent lok stuff comes up and never ends up anywhere, sometimes it ends in a nasty way. Thanks Ricky for keeping it all good.
