Rope Mod, not sold

All preference I guess. I have Muddy Lifeline ropes on my heliums and absolutely love them. I have little stretch issues and find them easy to throw high and reduce stretch

same here.. I traded for my modified Heliums with the rope and I love it too. Haven't had the buckles on them but never was tempted to find out

I have done the rope mod and struggled some originally with rope stretch which translate into the stick sliding down the tree when weight is applied. I swapped ropes to amsteel and it improved that aspect. But I still feel you can get a cam buckle tighter. Personally I still use the rope as it is one less possibility to make noise compared to swinging a metal buckle around the tree but that can be done quietly as well it just takes a bit more concentration.
The inner tube around the buckle suggestion was a good one.

Awesome man. What size amsteel did you have the best success with?

I used 1/4 inch but had Diy versa buttons so could change the depth to make it pinch the rope for sure. 5/16 I think would get a better "pinch" with a standard unmodified versa button. You can also do a double wrap around the button to create more pinch

Awesome man, thanks.

I would ditch those hawk straps and keep the versa button but use a lone wolf strap rather than rope. Far superior to the hawk brackets and straps

This is the way to go if wanting straps. LW straps are quieter to use .

Putting on a versa button gives u the option for strap or rope use.

I'm just curious. I have one muddy stick with versa button and an aider set up for 1 stick climbing. I always have it tied to me with paracord, but sometimes, when I loop the rope behind itself on the button, I don't even tie a half hitch. It binds on itself so well. More often than not I do add a hitch, and I do 2 when i'm at hunting height. But from the get, it was lighter, quieter, and easier to deal with than a strap.

The only reason I can think that it's not quick and easy is because the rope isn't the right diameter to squeeze behind itself on the versa button. I've not had it slip once, more than an inch or two if I pull the rope tight and level before I put weight on the stick. This might even be just stretch in the rope.

Man I hate cambuckles, could be part of the difference - haha I might be biased.

I’ve been running the rope mod for 7 years and I can put my sticks up just as fast and don’t really slide much on the tree. Just something I’m used too I guess.

I just put the brackets back on my heliums and climbed a tree in my backyard with the straps, much better! FOR ME, they're quicker, just as quiet if I pay attention and take my time and much less sag when I apply my weight. I will deal with the extra weight and silence the buckles as best I can. Thanks for all your help and opinions

are all of you that don't like using ropes, using a lineman's belt to climb the tree?

Hopefully everyone climbing a tree is using one. I’ve had small drops using spikes, had ring of steps fold over, had the bottom of a helium kick out. Thankfully all 3 times I was connected with a lineman’s belt or my tether.

For one sticking, rope is the way to go. It’s much faster to untie.

And with a carbon cam cleat it is even better. I still like the rope, it is quiet and with a cam cleat easy to attach. As far as the helium bracket - the way it sits flush is likely fantastic for stacking the sticks.

For me, there's a difference between talking about 8mm rope and amsteel. It it were a question between silenced buckles and 8mm rope with a knot, I'm not sure the tradeoff is worth it. But if you're comparing to amsteel it's a different comparison. Amsteel is lighter, has less stretch, is stronger, and can have a lower profile spliced eye vs. rope.

I still like amsteel for a rope mod. I like silenced buckles as well. They both have their advantages.

Just curious if you're using 5/16" or 1/4" and what the spacing is between your stick and the washer/button?

The rope mod is the way to go for me. It's really fast once you get the hang of it. One thing to consider about the bicycle tubing mod is that the rubber smell never really goes away. If I can smell the rubber so can the deer.

I have been a fan of rope mod on my LW sticks using 5/16" amsteel. I spliced an eye on one end. I feel like goes on a lot quicker and quieter than the old buckles.
