I'm not sure I agree with this. Personally, the weight doesn't bother me, I typically don't count ounces like many do but, the noise is huge for me. There is nothing worse then being slow, methodical and super quiet the last 100 yards to your stand because you know you could be close to deer and then having a buckle slip and "ting". Sitting there all evening not knowing if that mistake cost you an opportunity sucks.
Also, using buckles requires me to focus on the buckle to make sure it doesn't slip or make noise. If there are no buckles to worry about I can pass straps around the tree, etc without looking or worrying about noise and keep my eyes on the woods.
With three kids and little time I usually don't DIY a lot of stuff unless it's worth it. To me, getting rid of buckles is one of those things that are worth my time.
