I did the same! Tried the rope mod but I like the straps better.Yes I believe it was. I guess I should add that I did swamp the brackets out and put versa buttons on my heliums.

All preference I guess. I have Muddy Lifeline ropes on my heliums and absolutely love them. I have little stretch issues and find them easy to throw high and reduce stretch
I have done the rope mod and struggled some originally with rope stretch which translate into the stick sliding down the tree when weight is applied. I swapped ropes to amsteel and it improved that aspect. But I still feel you can get a cam buckle tighter. Personally I still use the rope as it is one less possibility to make noise compared to swinging a metal buckle around the tree but that can be done quietly as well it just takes a bit more concentration.
The inner tube around the buckle suggestion was a good one.

I used 1/4 inch but had Diy versa buttons so could change the depth to make it pinch the rope for sure. 5/16 I think would get a better "pinch" with a standard unmodified versa button. You can also do a double wrap around the button to create more pinchAwesome man. What size amsteel did you have the best success with?

I would ditch those hawk straps and keep the versa button but use a lone wolf strap rather than rope. Far superior to the hawk brackets and straps
I like rope on sticks and strap on platforms.
are all of you that don't like using ropes, using a lineman's belt to climb the tree?

And with a carbon cam cleat it is even better. I still like the rope, it is quiet and with a cam cleat easy to attach. As far as the helium bracket - the way it sits flush is likely fantastic for stacking the sticks. For one sticking, rope is the way to go. It’s much faster to untie.
For me, there's a difference between talking about 8mm rope and amsteel. It it were a question between silenced buckles and 8mm rope with a knot, I'm not sure the tradeoff is worth it. But if you're comparing to amsteel it's a different comparison. Amsteel is lighter, has less stretch, is stronger, and can have a lower profile spliced eye vs. rope.
I still like amsteel for a rope mod. I like silenced buckles as well. They both have their advantages.
