Treebolts revisited

I went to a tree today that was pre-set in July with plasti dip bolts. No sign of squirrel damage, and there are a TON of squirrels in this piece of property.
I've had some sitting outside on my back porch all summer too. Same thing. A lot of squirrels and no sign of them chewing on the plasti dip.
They like bird feeders better, lol

16 bolts in tubes. A bit over 4 lbs with the EZ Kut drill. Another way to Cary bolts.

Can you post a little more detail about how you have this set up? I had a similar idea and bought one of these gearless ratchets to try out. The ratchet is dead silent. I just haven't gotten to trying to piece it all together yet.
I second that! More detail about how you got that set up would be much appreciated!

Looks similar to what I'm doing (post #698). What did you use for tubes and are they glued together or loose?

Terra cotta?? The only terra cotta pipe I've ever seen is that clay stuff for sewer lines, chineys, and flower pots.
I googled it and couldn't see any terra cotta in 1/2".

Can someone give me the exact length of the body of their EZ Cut drill? Thanks!!!

Sorry man - I left it long some people are wanting more efficiency on the stroke. Personally, I like the standard length. It’s exactly 6”.

Make sure to take care that you drill the hole high enough in the channel(close enough to open side) that the end of bit has clearance not to hit inside of channel when opening and closing.

Thanks Man! It should be here today and I'm putting the pieces together this evening. I just didn't know what the factory length was.

Let me look when I get home. Got it at Menards which is like a Home Depot. The tag on the shelf had three letters. P something. But the name on the tubing itself is Terra Cora. 1/2” ID.
A 5’ piece was about $1.75.

I grew up using bolts and when I moved to Omaha, bolts kept bending (apparently I was using grade 5 and not grade*, so I switched to sticks etc. So just wanted to get back into bolts because of how easy it was. Just need a refresher, is everyone using 3/8" OR 1/2" BOLTS? Thanks, I am sure I could go through all 38 pages and find the answer, just dont have that kind of time right now

6" , 3/8 grade 8.

I found a bit at Harbor Freight that when chucked in a drill is about the perfect length.... Also got lucky and was able to go to a local supplier and buy bolts for .60 cents each for un-coated and .70 each for coated.
